I'm running low on disk space, on the drive on which climateprediction is running, which I seriously need. Is it safe to and how do you move boinc with the work units to another drive, without losing all the work done?

1) Make a backup just in case.
2) Uninstall BOINC from it's current location.
3) Move all remaining files from the current location to the new location.
4) Install BOINC to the new location.

If this was not in the CPDN forum I would have skipped step 1, the risk of losing other workunits is not worth the effort.
