I think this actually is a BOINC issue, but not too sure. I have a \"Flaky\" machine (Crashes only if your on it :) ). After it reboots, CPDN doesn\'t want to restart. It goes through the finding out your WhetStone and DryStone (What are they??) and then just sits. Reports that no work has been done (0%), but it does report hours worked on it. It also isn\'t doing any work on it (0% CPU Usage). I have to exit BOINC, and start it up again for the computations to continue. When it does restart, it doesn\'t calc WhetStone or Drystone again. It will then start crunching numbers. This almost looks like something is getting corrupted (Project settings??), and it gets reconstructed when the computer restarts, but then can\'t get used until I restart BOINC. This actually has been going on for about a week (almost 1 crash a day, sometimes more)... Good luck debugging this one.. GE PS> My other computer is a Hyper Thread machine. I really think you guys shold explore multi threading so that both \"virtual\" CPU\'s can work on the same unit. Instead of 700 hours to complete, maybe only 370 or so (I know it can\'t be cut in half that easily). Just a thought. |

Next time you reboot, or crash & reboot, check if BOINC isn't suspended. That would account for it not doing any work after the benchmarks (the Whetstone & Dhrystones). -------------------- Jordâ„¢ <img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/cpdn/stats.php?userID=2&trans=off"> |

You should be looking in your event viewer for what is happening. Re: the 2 cpu question, if you opt to use 2 processors the programme will use them <img src="http://seti.mundayweb.com/stats.php?userID=287&trans=off"></img><br><img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/cpdn/stats.php?userID=73&trans=off"></img><br><img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/seti2/stats.php?userID=1057&trans=off"></img> |

I know its set to use both processors, but if you have a true multiThread app on a Hyper Thread machine, the crunching will go faster (not 2x faster, but more like 1.5x faster). The result is a unit completed faster, not 2 units completed in (roughly) the same time of each other. The event viewer comes up with nothing. BOINC actaully has just stopped working (Given up 99% of the CPU time) on both machines now. And on a fairly regular basis (about 1 time every 2 to 3 days). The only way to get them to start again is to close BOINC and start it again. Suspend / resume doesn't seem to do anything. There is also no ryme or reason to it. Some times I'll wake up in the morning and they are stopped. Other times send/receive of email will make it stop. No errors or messages to speak of... GE |
