The program has finished all three phases, but has not been able to upload for 5 days now. I have configured my proxy appropriately. I have gone to the 'Projects' tab in BOINC and told it to 'Update' and it sends the first phase 100%, but then comes back with a message indicating 'Temporary Failed upload (file name) backing off xxxx hrs.mins.' I have received a new file but the failed upload has frozen my BOINC from moving forward with either SETI or CPDN until the work is sent. Is there a way to send the three phases in e-mail or manually? Thanks for any help. |

I'm surprised that your upload problem is stopping BOINC from doing new work. BOINC was designed to allow for server problems. One thought. Do you have a large number of trickle files in your projects directory? See <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2811">this thread</a>. The symptom is not the one described there, but there is evidence that other server problems can have the same cause. If you do not have outstanding trickle files let us know and somebody will suggest other measures. |

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, no difference. I have searched the hard drive for .xml files and did not find but 5 or 6 associated with BOINC. There are over 100 .zip files in the CPDN.net directory. I tried the thread you suggested and moved the .zip files to a temp directory, updated, uploaded, but no change. I am looking for other suggestions. Thanks |

The zip files contain the results from each WU, and are stored in the folder for each model. You should keep them in their original folder but it is good practice to move them out of BOINC when the WU has finished uploading. Storing them on a CD/DVD is fine, but you should keep them if possible. I hope that you did not move any out of the folder for the WU BOINC is currently trying to upload, or that might make things worse. Put them back if so. Most of the files are not uploaded, but about 8 MB is. The trickle files are in the form <i>trickle_up_*.xml</i> and are the ones that Thyme Lawn is talking about. My suggestion for the next thing to try is to make a backup of the BOINC folder (a good habit, especially when trying to fix things) and to try and reset things by suspending and closing BOINC and restarting. If that doesn't work, try a reboot. I am sorry if you have already tried that, but it seems to fix all sorts of odd problems. |

Well, the situation has not changed although I have tried your suggestions. Is there a way I can e-mail this to CPDN? I cannot find any trickle files on my machine. Doesn't this mean they have already trickled to CPDN? The new Work Unit is already well underway and moving along fine. I am expecting the same thing to happen when it finishes as well. The results file indicates I have had 72 trickles. How many typically accompanies a Work Unit? In results there also appears another user in my account. Is this possible? Thanks |

Check your firewall settings. If you haven't allowed unrestricted access to port 80 from BOINC your best solution would be to do that. If you don't want to give BOINC open access on port 80 you'll have to specifically allow access for all the CPDN servers. I believe that this is still the current list. climateprediction.net climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk cpdn-upload1.comlab.ox.ac.uk uploader1.atm.ox.ac.uk phkup21.unibe.ch "The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer |

Thank you for your message. This is absolutely confounding. I have set up the proxy to allow port 8002 which is our server's port config. I have allowed the web addresses you included in your post. And yet no upload successful. I am at a loss as to what more to do. |
