I have had problems with Outlook running slow. At first I thought it was something to do with running Zonealarm with "email protection" on, but even with ZA completely off the problem continued. I have now discovered that if I turn Boinc to suspend, the problem diasapears. I thought the idea was that through prefernces you could get Boinc to suspend while you are using the computer, but I notice this dosn't happen! I am sure that it did suspend in earlier versions of Boinc. Can anyone help how to get the suspend to work when other programs are being used? Anyone else with similar problems? WIN XP AMD64 3000+ Boinc 4.19 hadsum3 version 4.12. Outlook 2000 Zone Alarm 5.5.094 |

I think that BOINC 4.25 is better at 'obeying' preferences, but there are so many possibilities to test. I'm using 4.25, with 2 hadsm 4.12 models, on a 3.2G P4 with Win XP, MS firewall, and Outlook Express 6 without problems. I know that 4.25 no longer attempts to dialup by itself, but with the 'net 'off', if I forget to 'Disable BOINC Network Access', BOINC will try to talk to a server when a trickle is available, and create error messages. One nice thing in 4.25, is that error messages are in red, so they are instantly recognizeable. Cracks are starting to appear in versions beyond 4.25, so be carefull with dev versions. Les |

I hadn't realised we could use BOINC versions other than the 4.19 version availble on the CPDN site. Following your comments I went to the Boinc site and being brave (or foolish depending on how things workout) downloaded 4.38 and had that running happily for two days. Today I have moved to the recently released (Boinc Manager)4.40 and though it has only been working for a few hours similarly it seems to be working well. It has also solved my problems with MS Outlook as the "run based on preferences" works really well. I am curious about this new Boinc Manager as it seems to have the ability to connect to other PC's, sort of working like old classic add-on "Farmview". I havn't figured out how to allow the connections to the other computers on my LAN yet, but it is an intriging step forward for Boinc. > |
