Hello

I have two machines, one at home, one at work. I've set up BOINC on both, but the home machine will not run often, and hence I'm considering running Einstein only on it, whilst using the work machine for CPDN. However, due to disconnects i now have several CPDN WUs on my home machine.

So, questions:

1) Can I make sure that the work machine does NOT download another WU when this one finishes?

2) Can I move my home WU's over to the work machine and finish them there? I was wondering if a complete copy of the BOINC folder to the work machine would work?

Cheers.

The recommended way to prevent new wu downloads is to go into your General preferences, and set "Leave at least" to a value larger than your hard disk size.

To move a model between computers you MUST copy the entire BOINC folder, and not just the climateprediction.net folder. As several people have found out the hard way.

Backup the old BOINC folder on your work computer first, if at all possible. Some of the .xml files in the BOINC folder have info about the computer.
E.G. client_state.xml, which also contains the info about the current models.
It may be necessary to edit this, so that relevant lines contain what is in the file originally on the work computer.
Have a look at the start of this file on both computers, and you'll see the difference.
(All the lines between the two "host_info" lines),

Any problems will probably show up as a model being computed on the wrong computer, possible with credits across both.

Post again if you need more help.

Part of the trickles will be visible on each computer but when the run is completed, the result will be attached to the new box like in this one :

<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=510945">http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=510945</a>

Host 81480 kept crashing on trickle 24 so from that trickle everything has been calculated on host 134692

thank you very much guys

will this work even if the project (and hence WU's) have been detached from BOINC? or will a new WU be downloaded?

I think so. At any rate you will not lose anything by trying.
