I'm using Windows 2000 Pro, and BOINC 4.25, and I've been having some trouble lately for the climate project where it will run for maybe a day, and then when I come back later, there is a window like the one below: hadsm3_4.12_windows_intelx86.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x77f88216" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program I then click on OK, and the screen switches between BOINC screensavers (like the Einstein one), or whatever window I am trying to focus on, and so then I right-click on the "B" BOINC system tray icon, and select "Exit", and this behavior eventually stops when BOINC shuts down. Then, I restart BOINC (without rebooting), and suspend the climate project, and everything runs fine like it used to until I resume the climate project, after which a day or two later the same things happen. My computer has an Intel Pentium 4 2.6GHz processor, 1GB DDR dual-channel RAM, an Intel Desktop motherboard, and a 250GB hard drive. It is not misbehaving on any other projects, nor other programs. Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? TIA, Andy |

Hi Andy, I have had very similar errors on my laptop but I could never pin point the problem to a specific program. It started to become a regular problem with random applications crashing and then about a month later, my hard drive died completely. I'm not saying this is your problem, but if it is a regular event, then I would suspect a hardware issue. Perhaps try getting another drive and copying boinc across to it and see if the problem still persists. I know this isn't much help, but something to keep in mind. Bones |

A hardware issue crossed my mind, too, but I have no other evidence that anything is misbehaving except for Climate. Everything including other BOINC projects run fine when I don't run Climate. So for now, I'll wait until the next update, and try again then. Thanks again. Andy |
