I'm running OS X 10.4.1 with Boinc client 4.43. I also run Seti, Predictor and Einstein. I have 2 problems first is that CPDN will not run. I have reset project, restarted computer etc but it refuses to run. In Boinc manager it claims to be running, but under activity monitor CPU usage is 0%
Second and not directly related to CPDN is that time sharing between various clients does not work. I've noticed that Einstein and Predictor both refuse to stop running to allow other projects to run. Has anyone else observed this?

These problems may related to 4.43, which was mostly to fix problems with other projects, but has introduced new problems here, especially for mac users.

As to Climate not running: the current setup is looking for a few library files with an erroneous path. To make climate run, I simply put these files where the model expects them.

- Create a folder name "opt" on the top level of your boot drive. In it create a folder named "ibmcmp" and in that folder create one named "lib".

- Copy the following three files: "libxlsmp.A.dylib" "libxlfmath.A.dylib" and "libxlf90.A.dylib" into the "lib" folder. You will find these files in /Library/Application Support/Boinc Data/projects/climateprediction.net/. (If running Menubar, look for a similar location in your hime area.)

- Restart climate and all should be well. (Though I had one model crash out of the box. BOINC promptly threw it away and got a new one which ran, so no problem with that.)

As to scheduling, I experience the problem as well, but only on my dual CPU macs. It seems to be most troublesome with Einstein, so I've discontinued Einstein on my duals. However, at times I do see the duals (with Climate, Protein & SETI) trying to run 3 threads simultaneously. Though this reduces overall productivity of BOINC (due to decreased memory cache effectiveness) it, IMO, isn't that big a deal. Another poster mentioned that there is a 4.44 in the works to address scheduling problems.

Thanks for the info. It also worked for me. I also find Einstein to be the worst behaved of the apps generally

I have the same problem with all the workunit from this project, but this is not really a solution, rather a bug you can fix yourself. The developers could fix this bug very easily and they should do (I'm developer too).
Is there any patch or update released ?

unfortunately we are still waiting (hoping) to get a mac for future development; we've only been using a laptop G4 which is pretty slow for development (it would takes something like 6 months to run a full hadsm3). hopefully we'll be getting money for gear (i.e. a dual-proc G5), but right now the Mac has been put behind other priorities (there's just two of us doing all the computer stuff so we're stretched out a bit thin).

For what it is worth ... the commands in a terminal session will look something like:

G5a:~ paulbuck$ cd /
G5a:/ paulbuck$ mkdir opt
G5a:/ paulbuck$ cd opt
G5a:/opt paulbuck$ mkdir ibmcmp
G5a:/opt paulbuck$ cd ibmcmp
G5a:/opt/ibmcmp paulbuck$ mkdir lib
G5a:/opt/ibmcmp paulbuck$ cd lib
G5a:/opt/ibmcmp/lib paulbuck$ cp \"/users/paulbuck/library/application support/boinc data/projects/climateprediction.net/libxlf90.a.dylib\" .
G5a:/opt/ibmcmp/lib paulbuck$ cp \"/users/paulbuck/library/application support/boinc data/projects/climateprediction.net/libxlfmath.a.dylib\" .
G5a:/opt/ibmcmp/lib paulbuck$ cp \"/users/paulbuck/library/application support/boinc data/projects/climateprediction.net/libxlfsmp.a.dylib\" .

you are obviously going to have to adjust the user name to suit...

Oh, I also, IMMEDIATELY after the download of a work unit hist \"suspend\" prject, then expanded the zip file: hadsm3se_4.12_powerpc-apple-darwin to get the lib files ...

That way I did not immediately error the model ... at the moment ... it is at least pretending to be working ...

ah, better than THAT! Look:

Clay,

I\'ve referred to this particular thread many times. And I\'m still confused. Still getting client errors.

I don\'t see any lib files in my \"user/library/appsupport/BOINC/projects/climateprediction\" folder. These files show up when I download the sulphur model fortran lib. And using the fortran lib installer seems to place the \"libxlf90.A.dylib,\" \"libxlfmath.A.dylib\" and \"libxlsmp.A.dylib\" into the opt>ibmcmp>lib folder.

Are there different lib files, other than the sulphur model ones? Should they appear in our user>...project folder after attaching to a project?

Am I supposed to decompress the .zip files in the project folder after I reattach and these files are downloaded by the project?

Are we supposed to *copy* or *move* the lib files? Does it matter?
