This is stupid, I'm pulling all my computers from this project. I'm only wasting valuable computer time here, which other projects would love to have. I'm sure CP couldn't care less. I've been on this project since CP went BOINC, and before that, w/the old CP. It's an utter mess, not just recent data, but past data too, like in months. No sense wasting any more of my computers time here until they fix it, that is if they can even fix it. Even then, can I ever trust it? I'll check back to see if any progress has been done. Bye. |

I answered your question 2 of your posts ago. If you can't be bothered reading them, then goodbye. |

Problem is, everything appears to be an utter mess in my account, w/all that computer time wasted. I don't belong to any teams, not to say that I don't like to see my systems scoring, but I also do like to see that I am contributing. You know, it shouldn't be me that people like you get mad at, but rather at CP's staff. This isn't the first time that things have gotten messed up by them. |

My apologys for my early rant. As The Fonz would say: It was Uncool. The next time I see a post by someone saying the project is not worth their computer time, I shall ignore them, and just keep crunching. Les |

> My apologys for my early rant. No apologies necessary here, Les. I learned from one of your posts (long ago) that everything justs cranks on as planned. If you can, check my file. I don't interfere with those things which I do not control, and the universe unfolds as it should. Case study in patience. I am hoping that the models just keep pouring silently thru this CPU/, and that the next one will load and fire automatically. Cheers, mate. John H. |

Hi GoHack If you had heard Dave Stainforth speaking at the COAPEC conference in London last week, you would realise how grateful the team all are to the thousands of crunchers. It was also clear from his talk and from what he said afterwards that they are all really busy. Read Dave Frame's new post about everything that's happening on the project, on the classic forum - you will see why they are so busy. I spent over 2 months trying to get boinc to run on my machine and failed, so rather than waste more time, I reverted to cpdn classic which is running beautifully. OK, it's a low-tech solution (relatively-speaking!) and you don't get boinc stats, but it's a way of staying in a valuable project while more of the bugs get sorted. |

And the little icon to indicate a new post is missing. I think that this was among the last few things that Carl fixed for us. Hope we get it back, I've become spoiled. Also, the list of 'last 10 trickles' is missing from all but the front page of our accounts. Or is my memory playing up again, and there wasn't any? I've tried to get a memory upgrade, but my brain is an obsolete model. And it suddenly became freezing here about 10 days ago, which doesn't help my thinking, but will, I hope, help my computer's thinking. Les |

It would help us and the other participants answer your > question. > I'm a horrible communicator, so bare w/me. :) Look, don't you guys think that it would be a good idea to better notify people of any problems or down time, if we are so important to this project, via email or something, rather than us having to find out on our own? How about a main message board on the home page that gives an alert of the system being down? I spent last weekend going over my hardware, trying to figure out why my numbers were suddenly running so low. With nothing changed on my end, other than having upgraded to BOINC 4.17, I asked why the problems here. I'm not directly benefiting from this project, except maybe for the fact that I am a part of this planet earth. As I said earlier, I do like to see my system's accomplishing something w/the numbers, my hardware slowly moving up in the ranks, what's wrong w/that? Can't I, and others, get a little something back out of this as a reward on our part? What's the issue w/your staff problems, money, finding skilled people, summer recess? Look, maybe my causing waves, or is it stirs the pot, if that is a proper term, isn't such a bad thing, in order to get you people to really talk about the issue(s)? |

GoHack That is a now a perfectly reasonable post. Thank you for the change of tone. To be honest I have been expecting a lot more flak really. A lot of us agree with you that there should be at least a server status indicator and ideally more indication when they know about problems and are working on the fix. Many such suggestions have been made. The team have made apologies for important things like communicating with us being crowded out by urgent tasks. I think money is the main issue with staff problems. Though family related matters leading to time off may also be playing a part. There is a general update thread here which shows there is a lot going on: Update thread probably does not have all the answer you want and more prominence might well be appropriate. |

GoHack: Another solution is to join multiple BOINC projects. Odds are very good that at least one of the projects will be up-and-running at any point in time. Personally, I particate equally in all 5 of the current BOINC projects. If you consider CP.net to be the only worthwhile project, then you are the mercy of their technology and the logistics of the project. Hope this helps. --- bt |
