Hi -- I have two problems with the graphics being displayed while running BOINC/climateprediction. (Only one problem occurs at a time however.)

1. The graphics button on \"work\" tab is disabled - greyed out, OR

2. When the button is not greyed out, and I select it, nothing happens. (There does seem to be a momentary flurry of activity within the message dialog area at the bottom of the BOINC Manager window however.)

This is the second time that I am running BOINC -- I uninstalled it several months ago when it kept erroring off because it couldnt transmit files to the server.

You may not have a model running.
Is 26k9_200122851_0 shown in the Work tab?
What is displayed under Status in the work tab?

You also seem to have a computer problem.
You could try the hardware tests <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2124"> here,</a> and these <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2126"> here.</a>

Just for the record, I have the same problem as delta-vee (except for the greyed out box... mine never does that, but it does do nothing when I click "Show Graphics")

I am trying only when Climateprediction is actually running (so yes, there is a model running on my comp). Also, the SETI@home graphics work fine, which is what is so weird. The Einstein@home graphics do the same thing as CPDN.

There is a problem with some ATI cards. This is supposed to be fixed in the latest version of BOINC, but it will need a recompile of each projects core client.
There is no word on when this will occur with this project, but the usual sign is a new hadsm number. This is currently 4.12 for Windows, and, I think 4.13 for Linux. Not sure of the Mac version number.
The usual comment about graphics problems is to check that you have the latest version of the driver, and to try BOINC 4.19 if you are using an ATI card.

Sorry I didn't say this in the original post, but I got great graphics using BOINC before I uninstalled it the first time. (I then downloaded and installed the 'classic' climateprediction release, which works fine, but I didn't like the graphics as much.)

BTW -- 26k9_200122851_0 is NOT shown in the work tab.

This is what I have:

application: hadsm3 4.12
name: 0nii100050804_0
CPU TIME: 25:43:10

Are you still suggesting that I wait for a recompile?

Thanks,
Michael

I have graphics with boinc 4.19 and not with boinc 4.45
I never understood why and although I asked several times the question to the boinc dev team, I never got a answer :o( (same thing with E@H)

What is the CPDN team waiting for? I'm sure they are probably losing users who are turned off by the graphics not working. I agree that science issues are more important, but issues with the software need to be addressed. Otherwise, they may not have enough people left to do the science!

I guess I will look for a contact e-mail so I can contact the team directly about this. Anybody have one?

You're not the first person to complain about ATI cards. The graphics work perfectly for those of use with a different card. And some people with it don't have a problem.

The programmer knows about the problem, and that a new version of hadsm is needed. Again.
The list of VERY URGENT problems is rather long, and modifying hadsm is not a trivial task.
Apparently just compiling it takes a couple of hours.

If you want to complain to the dev team, there is a contact &amp; support section to the left of here.
