Well, here is something strange then... I just did a reset to get version 4.03, yet nothing was deleted, and all 415 megabytes of data generated from the last running workunit (only 5 percent finished, so i wasn't worried about lost worktime) are still present on this machine. Will this garbage go away after a time, or should i manually kill it?

Actually, thinking back to the alpha trial this is what happened to me. The old work units are invalidated but not scrubbed from your machine. Because the run is incomplete there's no problem with deleting it from your system.

It is a good idea to hang on to the results from completed runs because only a small subset (10MB out of over 300MB) is returned to the servers. If your run is of particular interest it is possible that the project eam may want to retrieve more of the results or download another program to perform further analysis. If you've deleted the results the model will have to be run again. If you are short of disk space you can always back up the results.

makes a lot of sense. i'll delete the work units; is it safe to delete the 4.02 executables since i reset to get 4.03?

Yes. They shouldn't be used again.

My 4.05 BOINC GUI crashed and I had to remove the old client state xml to get it going again. That caused CDPN to download new work units to my computer. However, I still have two old work units in the CDPN folder that are no longer recognized. These work units have over 100 hours of crunching already done on them and I don't want to lose my credits. How do I get CDPN/BOINC to recognize the older units? I'm sure there's a way to edit the xml file to redirect the analysis to the previous file names, but I don't want to hack around if someone already knows how to do this.

You won't lose the credits you've already accumulated and it's best just to leave the new jobs running and delete everything relating to the old ones. Manual editing of the XML files is <b>not</b> a good idea because there's lots of ways you could easily break things.
