difference between this project and SETI does not allow to participate in both projects. I am participating SETI for a longer time, and they often have no work units available. In this time, I could do your project, but unfortunately you use the different core versin. My suggestion is to talk to guys from SETI, and maybe they will start using 4th version? Or version 3 will be good for you too?

I think you'll find that Carl has a lot of contact with the people from Seti (which are in essence the same as the people who made BOINC) ... ;)

But the present CPDN model cannot use the 3.xx client.
Whereas the Seti Alpha testers are already testing BOINC 4.03 or 4.05 by now, so in a couple of weeks you'll find that Seti will change over to this new client as well.

The 4.xx client allows for a better change between projects, so you can attach to multiple projects and in essence crunch them all at the same time. For example:

You attach to Seti and CPDN.
CPDN will crunch to its first trickle, then contact Seti and tell it to download a workunit, crunch that one and when done, upload it, while it will continue to calculate the next trickle on CPDN.

That's it in a very small nutshell. ;)

well, I haven't understood a lot of what you just said, but the first part is ok. :)
Thank you for answer. In this case I'm staying now with climate prediction, and waiting for SETI to change the client. They don't have any work units available for now anyway... :)

well J&amp;H meant that the BOINC 4.x will allow you to "multitask" projects, i.e. depending on your "resource shares" for project, it will run CPDN for a day, then SETI for a day etc. So you don't have to feel "bogged down" on any one particular project.

Basically running a climate model is a pretty complicated task, which is why they usually do 'em on supercomputers, but with the features the BOINC gang put in version 4.x to help us get it running (i.e. trickles, suspend/shutdown features etc), it made it feasible to move the entire project under BOINC. We are still keeping the "CPDN Classic" Windows client around for users that like that and for the OpenU course, but all future CPDN development will be under BOINC (i.e. sulphur cycle, coupled model etc)

And in a few years, to really tie SETI &amp; CPDN together, we may possibly be doing paleo-Martin-climates with CPDN/BOINC! :-)

HA, Freudian slip, must have been thinking of a cpdnboinc.dll for CPView &amp; IDL!
