MAC OS 10.4.2 PowerbookG4 Hi, I have downloaded and chmod boinc to 755. I runed boinc through the terminal: ./boinc But it doesn\'t ask me anything: no url or ID number. In the terminal I have this: My-Computer2:~/desktop/boinc_4.43_darwin user1$ ./boinc 2005-08-12 16:29:56 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.43 for powerpc-apple-darwin 2005-08-12 16:29:56 [---] Data directory: /Users/user1/Desktop/boinc_4.43_darwin 2005-08-12 16:29:56 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 2005-08-12 16:29:58 [---] Running CPU benchmarks 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] Benchmark results: 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] Number of CPUs: 1 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] 761 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] 1955 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] Finished CPU benchmarks 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] Resuming computation and network activity 2005-08-12 16:30:56 [---] Insufficient work; requesting more Thank you for your help |

You have to attach a project. Send the command ./boinc -help and boinc will give you the list of boinc commands that are available. One of these commands is -attach_project or something like that. To use, enter ./boinc -attach_project and press enter. Termiinal should come back and ask you for the URL of the project. Enter the URL from the email you were sent when you created your account. Terminal will then ask you for your account name (or something...). This is the long string of letters and numbers that looks like djt834mjg86jmfv94jm589gjfdji8fvj4e8f BOINC will now go to the project and download a work unit for you and then begin crunching it. Word of caution: when you need to quit terminal, you use Control-C to stop boinc from running. Be careful when you do this, however, as it can cause loss of some of your calculations. CPDN will save to disk every 3 model days, beginning with 04 and next after 07, 10, 13, 16, etc. So look at the TS (tme step) that is showing in terminal. Just to the right of TSxxxxxxx you'll see the date as DD/MM/YYYY format, followed by the time in HH:MM format. You should wait until after 04/MM/YYYY 00:00 or after 07/MM/YYYY 00:00 etc. If you do quit at a different time, BOINC will restart from one of these times that it last saved. Also, if you go to your account info on this web site and set you preferences to "leave in memory", you won't redo any calculations; otherwise, it will begin work again from the last saved time as mentioned in the paragraph above. I'm having very similar problems to daniele and help provided in this and other threads have not helped me sufficently. I have followed the advice to copy the library files into the same folder as BOINC and that did get my model running. However, all my model runs in Terminal include error code 251 such as: 2005-08-16 19:30:49 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 2h1w_000136581_0 (process exited with code 251 (0xfb)) Any other helpful suggestions would be appreciated. The BOINC download page says "BOINC no longer works on Mac OS 10.2 and requires 10.3.9 or higher" for the latest gui version. It doesn't say anything about the other two versions of 4.43, but perhaps an OS upgrade may help. Not being a Mac person, this is only an idea. You may have other problems. |
