On my Windows xp SP2 Athlon 3000+ Client, BOINC with climateprediction works a long time and reached abount 12% of the first workunit. But now, the Work tab of the BOINC Software is empty. I went to the Projet Tab, right click and sayed: update. So the client fetches a new work unit, starts computing and reached 100% after 20 sec. Then a windows box came up, saying tha hdsm... has got error and will be terminated. I have got no idea, what is going wrong. Bay it e the latest Windows XP patch? |

Have you done a reboot? This sometimes fixs problems caused by Windows. Also, considering your "Average (sec/TS)", you should be trickling to the server more often. Do you have files starting with "trickle_up_" in your BOINC folder? If so, you may have a comms problem. Regarding the last wu that failed quickly: was it a 4.13 model? If your previous model was 4.12, then BOINC would have attempted to download new software,(hadsm 4.13), as well as a new data set. A lot of people are having problems with 4.13, even on download. There are several threads on the Message Boards about it. It may also help to know which BOINC version you are using. |

Dear Les Bayliss, thanks for your answer. Here is my anlysis: 1. I have reboot the system, problem is still there. In the folder \BOINC\projects\climateprediction.net ther are the following exe and zip Files Verzeichnis von C:\Programme\BOINC\projects\climateprediction.net 11.08.2005 17:43 3.847.569 hadsm3data_4.13_windows_intelx86.zip 11.08.2005 17:43 751.520 hadsm3se_4.13_windows_intelx86.zip 11.08.2005 17:43 1.970.194 hadsm3um_4.13_windows_intelx86.zip Verzeichnis von C:\Programme\BOINC\projects\climateprediction.net 29.03.2005 13:16 2.056.704 hadsm3se_4.12_windows_intelx86.exe 29.03.2005 13:15 5.822.464 hadsm3um_4.12_windows_intelx86.exe 11.08.2005 17:43 2.076.672 hadsm3_4.13_windows_intelx86.exe 6 Datei(en) 16.525.123 Bytes 0 Verzeichnis(se), 12.425.158.656 Bytes frei So the client has been automic updated. My BOINC client is version 4.19 for windows_intelx86. There are no trickle_up_ Files in the Folder. I run BOINC as user Administrator and as user with restricted rights. Do I understand you. You sayed that if the client updates from 4.12 to 4.13 it stops solving the reent WU and start with a new one. If this is so, I will never reach 100% for a WU, because clientupdates are more often than reaching 100%. I run BOINC on my home PC that is not working 24 hours a day. Is there no way to finish th old WU. Can I downgrade the client? Help needed from Frank P.S.: I have studied environmental science and got some friend who also did. I am the tester of climateprediction for my friends and when it works, we want to build a team. So if it works on my computer, it might work on some others. > Have you done a reboot? > This sometimes fixs problems caused by Windows. > Also, considering your "Average (sec/TS)", you should be trickling to the > server more often. > Do you have files starting with "trickle_up_" in your BOINC folder? > If so, you may have a comms problem. > > Regarding the last wu that failed quickly: was it a 4.13 model? > If your previous model was 4.12, then BOINC would have attempted to download > new software,(hadsm 4.13), as well as a new data set. > > A lot of people are having problems with 4.13, even on download. > There are several threads on the Message Boards about it. > > It may also help to know which BOINC version you are using. > > > |

Hi, The apps are only updated at the end of a model, when you download a new Wu Fortunately for this project, some users reach 100% :o) I would suggest that you do a fresh install of BOINC (removing BOINC, deleting the BOINC directory, rebooting and installing BOINC again. Then attach again to CPDN) ----------------------------------------------- Boinc Wiki L'Alliance Francophone |

Dear Arnoud, thanks for your advice. So I detached the project climateprediction from boinc and attached it again yesterday. But the climateprediction Server won't send me a new WU. Today it did and send a new application. My Computer now runs a new WU whith the hadsm 34.13. My projectfolder now contains three 4.13 labeled EXE Files 29.03.2005 13:16 2.056.704 hadsm3se_4.12_windows_intelx86.exe 19.07.2005 18:44 2.060.800 hadsm3se_4.13_windows_intelx86.exe 29.03.2005 13:15 5.822.464 hadsm3um_4.12_windows_intelx86.exe 19.07.2005 18:46 4.959.744 hadsm3um_4.13_windows_intelx86.exe 20.08.2005 12:09 2.076.672 hadsm3_4.13_windows_intelx86.exe The 3um_4.13 and 3se_4.13 files have not been there before. That might have been the problem. But its a shame that there seems to be no way to start a broken WU again from the point of error. 12% of work are gone now and my projectstats show lot of Client Errors and Proken WU. A better errorreporting could help this project. By the way: Thanks for the Link to the BOINC WIKI. Frank > >Do I understand you.
