Running 3 computers - a similiar in power (this is the fastest yet it has not submitted a trickle while the others have done 3 or so each. And the time remaining for WU completion keeps increasing - over 3% done with no trickle - over 40 hours

I see trickles for all 3 computers but 1 has only 2 trickles on 15 August and nothing since. 2 is correct for the timestep reached so I suppose the question is why hasn't it got further. The sec/TS is shown as 4.99 which is way too low unless the computer is constantly doing something else intensive.

I doubt a failed benchmark problem could have occured so soon after starting.

Do you run the visualisation all the time on that PC?

What else is running on the computer?
How long does it take to do 6 timesteps?
What processes are using what CPU percentages if you bring up task manager?

I'll be quick, I just recovered this computer (it was stolen) and flashed BIOS to upgrade to WIN XP SP2 (mandator) and get a BIOS supporting hyper threading (finally). Does not work - 2 properly working CPUS seen in Device Manager but only 1 in Sys Info and Task Manager.

Puter was using 100% CPU but only 45 to 78 were being used by BOINC. A reboot fixed that. You are now geting 100%. No graphics or other programs running.

I don't know how to measure timestops.

When I look at results I see no trickles for this computer and 9 for the other two. why is that?

Am I making any progress - the time reamining keeps increasing.

In your account, the last 10 trickles are listed. However you can click on results then a particular result then trickles to see more detail.

Hmm, it is harder to count 6 decreases in time now the display does not refresh frequently. Perhaps it is best to 1. Show graphics from work tab. 2. Note timestep, start stopwatch and close graphics. 3. Wait for 2 or 3 minutes. 4. Start Graphics, note timestep and stop stopwatch. 5. Calculate how many seconds for how many timesteps.

OK things are looking up - in 2 hours of work the estimated time of completion decreased by 200 hours.

I am not taking any new work in on any of the computers.

Did 7 minute check and got 102 done.

This computers is at timestop 31394 and has not gotten a trickle that I can see while the others are moving along nicely.

Your next trickle will be at time step 32406.
They are at intervals of 10802.

I don't understand why that computer should be taking over 4 sec a timestep your other slower computers are managing 3 sec a timestep or less. Has that 100% cpu to the HADSM3 process fallen again?

I assume you only have one HADSM3 process running.

Poorer memory speed can make a difference but I doubt it should be that much.

Could well be thermal throttling because the CPU is running hot. It can throttle back by lowering the speed of the CPU, or by inserting wait commands.

<a href="http://www.panopsys.com/Downloads.html">Throttlewatch</a> can tell you if that is what is occurring.

One person whose laptop had slowed right down finally removed the back, and he found that the air inlet chute was filled with dust.
