Been running BOINC for at least a year with SETI and added CPDN in July. Got some results before the version 4.13 errors started crashing all the data. Saw there was a new version, 4.19, out so I re-enabled CPDN and spent 2 1/2 hours (dialup) downloading it and a new WU. Well, it crashed too. Now I see that there is a version 4.45 (which I got previously from SETI) for Win2K & XP and a 4.43 for Linux/x86. I know this sounds stoopid, but my machine is an x86 (ok, Athlon 2600+ XP) but running lowly Windows 98, not 2K or XP. Should I even bother downloading the \"new\" version (which I already have), and if so, which one? As for the crash with the new data, here\'s my log entries. 08/27/2005 11:55:06 AM|climateprediction.net|Finished download of sulphur_data_4.19_windows_intelx86.zip 08/27/2005 11:55:06 AM|climateprediction.net|Throughput 2932 bytes/sec 08/27/2005 11:55:06 AM||request_reschedule_cpus: files downloaded 08/27/2005 11:55:06 AM|climateprediction.net|Starting result 47c5_300296405_0 using sulphur_cycle version 4.19 08/27/2005 11:55:19 AM||Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted. 08/27/2005 11:55:19 AM||Using earliest-deadline-first scheduling because computer is overcommitted. 08/27/2005 11:56:22 AM||Suspending network activity - user request 08/27/2005 12:55:06 PM||Allowing work fetch again. 08/27/2005 12:55:06 PM||Resuming round-robin CPU scheduling. 08/27/2005 7:38:44 PM||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited 08/27/2005 7:38:44 PM|climateprediction.net|Computation for result 47c5_300296405_0 finished 08/27/2005 7:38:44 PM|climateprediction.net|Unrecoverable error for result 47c5_300296405_0 ( 47c5_300296405_0_1.zip -161 47c5_300296405_0_2.zip -161 47c5_300296405_0_3.zip -161 47c5_300296405_0_4.zip -161 47c5_300296405_0_5.zip -161 ) 08/27/2005 9:17:27 PM|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi 08/27/2005 9:17:27 PM|climateprediction.net|Requesting 864000 seconds of work, returning 1 results 08/27/2005 9:17:38 PM|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded 08/27/2005 9:17:39 PM|climateprediction.net|Started download of 48uw_200298376.zip 08/27/2005 9:17:46 PM|climateprediction.net|Finished download of 48uw_200298376.zip 08/27/2005 9:17:46 PM|climateprediction.net|Throughput 2703 bytes/sec 08/27/2005 9:17:46 PM||request_reschedule_cpus: files downloaded 08/27/2005 9:17:46 PM|climateprediction.net|Starting result 48uw_200298376_0 using sulphur_cycle version 4.19 08/27/2005 9:17:56 PM||Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted. 08/27/2005 9:17:56 PM||Using earliest-deadline-first scheduling because computer is overcommitted. Win 98 lost support earlier this year. I think it may have been a new compiler not supporting something needed by Win98 to work. As for Sulphur, it requires BOINC 4.45 because of enhancements. Also, see this entry in the Wiki. Classic, (non BOINC), cpdn still works with Win98. And, when Carl starts work on Monday, he is going to look into why the server is giving Sulphur to old / under powered systems instead of slab models. |

Well, my machine isn't underpowered as all the internals have been upgraded. A 2600+ Athlon chip & 1/2 GB of RAM, but the original HDD still had the original Win98 OS so I left it alone. Hadn't been any problems (until now, apparently). Can Classic still be downloaded or am I S.O.L.? If it can, will it run OK with BOINC? I am running BOINC v.4.45 for SETI, don't see why it won't work for CPDN. Thanks for the quick answer and thank Carl for me too. |

Classic can be downloaded here, but I don't know how it will do trying to run with BOINC running another project. |

I tried another WU and got a SC one. It crashed after 2 hours. At least SETI is back up so my CPU cycles aren't going to waste anymore. |
