i started cp few weeks ago. after computing about 380 hours on one project and earning about 4500 credits, i was wondering if all the work to this certain point (when the application showed the error and loaded it up) is lost or can this project (half done) be sended to someone else and he`s computing it from the middle or some checkpoint or whatever ? i don\'t want to run cp at risk of loosing hundreds of hours of work (i don\'t care about credits, only the \'thing\' is important to me) and would rather choose other projects with smaller workunits instead if my work was worthless... thanks for an answer and sorry for my bad english (i\'m from germany) |

It's pretty stressful on a laptop. Do you have good cooling? Back of the laptop tilted up for ventilation? |

cooling is perfect, it ran for thousands of hours with 100% cpu usage... any other suggestions ? and my original question was not that WHY the error occured, but IF the Work is lost or is the work up to certain trickles saved on the CP servers and has not to be done again. that`s what i really wanna know before i start processing my next workunit with an estimated time of ca. 1500 hours. Imagine an error after about 1400 hours: is the work be saved until about 1380 hours or was the work worthless? understand my question ? |

Your results are useless for science, but there was talk that someone, a research student perhaps, would look through the failed results to see if there were common causes for failures that could be used to improve the software. When failed data sets eventually get re-issued, the next person will start from scratch. There is no mechanism for starting in the middle of a model. |
