In my preferences the disk space allocation is set to a maximum of 50% and that of memory to 75%. If I increase these will it speed up the time my machine takes to complete each run and/or cause any problems? Thanks |

It depends upon how much physical memory and empty HD space is on your machine. If too little memory, CPDN can tie itself in knots using swap space to get the job done a chunk at a time. If memory serves, it requires ~57 meg; anything less is a problem. If too little HD space for CPDN, I think boinc starts by eliminating unused items from its folder, eventually killing the Run for lack of space. If boinc/CPDN is given plenty of space in your Prefs but the physical disk is too small (or too full), Windoze gets twitchy and you'll get messages about taking steps to free-up some space. (I use 100 Meg and 95%; only one of my machines has that much physical space in the Partition on which CPDN runs.) If you have plenty of memory and HD space, increasing the limits in your Prefs shouldn't make any difference for CPDN processing speed. If you have less than 256k of memory, you might consider an upgrade -- especially if you run other things while CPDN is active. One thing that will help directly is to set "Leave applications in memory while preempted? (suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes')" to "yes". Otherwise, every time CPDN is preempted, it will fall back to the previous checkpoint and reprocess as many as 143 Time Steps. ___________________________________________ |
