I\'m new to this. I\'ve just obtained an account key from the climateprediction.net website. I\'ve downloaded the BOINC software and input the URL and account key as instructed by the website: \"When the BOINC software first runs, it will ask you for a Project URL and a Account key. Copy and paste them from here: . ...\" The software, however, does not seem to accept my key. It wants a password instead- not an account key. I\'ve tried pasting the account key into the password \'box\' but I\'m rejected each time. I can find no way of entering this key. What am I doing wrong? ! |

When you activated your account, you got an account key, but did you create a password as well here at Boinc. If you didn\'t, you can do it when you go to \"Your account\" with \"Change password\". With that password, not the passwod of Classic, and your e-mail address it should work. BOINC Wiki |

When you activated your account, you got an account key, but did you create a password as well here at Boinc. If you didn\'t, you can do it when you go to \"Your account\" with \"Change password\". aha! I did not know that I needed to set up a password. There was no mention of it when I registered with cl. pred. net. Perhaps it\'s something to do with the software upgrade, as Jimmer suggests? I followed your instructions and it works fine now. Many thanks for your help, R |

Please explain clearly the exact steps I must follow. If you click on the \"Your account\" link on the left it opens a form which includes a link to change your password (here\'s a direct link for your convenience). Type in the password you want to use. You might find it easier to use the same password for all projects you connect to and there\'s a minimum length of 6 characters. When you connect to the project use the email address you registered with and the password you entered. You used to have to enter the account key instead of the password at this point, but I\'m not sure if that still works. I\'ve had a look at the \"Getting started\" page and it doesn\'t mention anything about the new connection method. I\'ll raise that with the project team. Stuart The method changed with the switch from BOINC 4.* to the recently released version 5.* With the former, you were sent an account key by each project. Now you have to make up your own password. And remember it. According to the BOINC programers, this is supposed to makes things easier. |
