I\'m sure this question has been asked on this forum before, but I haven\'t found the exact answer I\'m looking for.

I have been unable to connect to Climate Prediction since November 8. I have been unable to upload or download any new work. I am also unable to access the homepage (oddly enough I can see the message board and my account page along with a few others). When I try to connect, I get the message about the server timing out.

I see through the server stats that everything seems to be running, so I\'m not sure what is going on. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any info. Take care.

Did you upgrade BOINC, or your firewall, about the 8th?

You should also be aware of a timeout bug in V4.45
There is a cure <a href=\"http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2855#15321\"> here,</a> and some discussion in that thread.

Or you could upgrade to the latest version, 5.2.8
But if you do, suspend and exit BOINC first, then make a backup of the entire BOINC folder first.
And the new version uses a self-created password, instead of the account key. If you don\'t have one / can\'t remember it, go to your Account page, and use the link there to change it.

Thank you for the response. I DL\'d and installed BOINC 5.2.9 and when I try to attach the Climate Prediction project, it is temporarily unavailable and thus unable to. I had kept Climate prediction on my 5.2.7 version of BOINC, but due to frustration detached it since it wasn\'t doing any work anyway. If you have any other advice, I am more than happy to hear what else you might recommend.

BTW, I installed a new firewall and virus scanner in mid-Sept. I don\'t remember when I first installed 5.2.7, but the issue of not producing any results for Climate Prediction was a reason why I installed the latest version of BOINC. Things seemed to be working okay with 4.45 up until about Nov. 8.

BOINC will need the following ports:

Ports to open for Boinc.exe: TCP 80.
Ports to open on LAN for Boinc.exe and Boincmgr.exe: TCP 1043 and TCP 31416.
In the 5.x.x versions boinc.exe also needs port 43.

(In V5.*, the two parts of BOINC talk to each other via ports.)

Also, ZoneAlarm tends to take note of the calls between the 2 parts of BOINC. I forget now if it was reported that it actually blocks the talking.

I really appreciate your patience with me on this. I have installed the latest version of BOINC (5.2.10) and it doesn\'t seem to have any problems with connecting with the projects I have already attached to it (Seti, Rosetta and Einstein), with or without my McAfee firewall. But, when I try to attach Climate Prediction, it still gives me the \"temporarily unavailable\" message. Does that have anything to do with your most recent response? If so, I\'m not completely sure how to make the recommended changes.

Is it possible that the URL that is suppose to be entered for Climate Prediction has been changed? I have tried to use \"http://climateprediction.net/\", and that\'s when I receive the \"project is temporarily unavailable\" message. There was one time that I did move to the next window asking for my proxy server, user name and password, but that hasn\'t happened again. Thank you again.

You could try the url without the trailing slash. But the address hasn\'t changed.
It may just be busy. Keep trying, I guess.
