having installed BOINC I tried to attech to a project, and am informed I need to \"select computer\" first, and to use this machine to use \"localhost\" as the computer name. If so, then which password do I use? - none I have used seem to work.

\"Select computer\", but DO NOT fill in EITHER fields. Just click OK.

thanks for that, but leaving both fields blank provokes \"the password you supplied is incorrect, please try again\"

When BOINC, (versions 5.*), is first started, if it can\'t find a password, it creates a file containing a random password.

So, go to your Account page, and, near the top, select Change password. Make sure you remember it/record it.
Then try again. I think this should work. Normally you need to send an Update from BOINC, but I don\'t think this will be available yet.
What should happen, is that you get \"Connected to localhost\" written on the right hand side of the bottom blue bar of the BOINC gui, and BOINC Manager - (localhost) at the left hand side of the top bar.

Sorry, it\'s been nearly a week since I went through this, and my short term memory isn\'t too good. :(
There are lots of things that may go wrong, so I\'m not going to try and guess what will happen. Just post back with what happens, even if it\'s just to say that it worked. Lots of others are joining up, and they will benefit from knowing what DOES work.

Yes, thanks, it connected to localhost without computer name and password BUT ONLY IF I allowed access to a non-trusted site in my Anti-virus/firewall application. status is now downloading project - so all seems fine. Thanks again.
