I have used Set@home for some years and have just, following advice from BOINC, changed to BOINC. I installed okay and downloaded my first \"package\". However, on completion I am unable to upload the results. On closer examination I see that the BOINC banner has \"localhost\" on it and in the bottom right \"footer scrollbar\" there is \"connected to localhost\" displayed.

Now, I run an Apache Server on my computer (localhost) as I am building web sites (using Javascript and PHP) and need to simulate the internet to test out the code before loading them onto the internet.

My computer is connected to the internet via an ADSL Router on a LAN (hard-wired) and an ADSL modem.

I have checked the options in BOINC Manager and selected options and then conenctions and ensured that \"connect via LAN\" is selected. However I have had no success.

Can you please help - Rod Stocker

\"connected to localhost\" displayed: it\'s normal.

Did you check that in the \"Commands\" tab that you\'ve selected \"Network activity always available\" ? Have you tried to update the project ?

Yes - I\'ve selected \"Network activity always available\" and I\'ve tried to update the Project but still no success.

Rod

If I click on your account I see that you have \'trickled\' twice. If your WU is still running, there should be another 118 to go. Are you saying that you are getting messages that the model has finished, or that BOINC has tried to download another model? Cut and paste the messages here if you are not sure what they mean.

There is a lot to learn about BOINC and climateprediction, but there is help in the BOINC-Wiki, especially here.
If you are interested in comms, there is a fair bit on that as well elsewhere in the Wiki.

Ahhhh! On closer examination I see that I am running phase 1 of 5 and that there are several hours to go!!! I was expecting more \"screen activity\" (akin to Seti@home) when the screen saver kicked in. So I thought that it had completed the prediction and needed uploading. I\'ll wait patiently until it\'s all complete and then see what happens. Ta. Rod

I recommend getting rid of the BOINC screensaver and setting it to blank, though I admit that you might miss it for the other projects. The graphic is also accessible via the work tab and explained here, but it may be wasting a lot of processing power. Climateprediction takes some getting used to because it is wholly different in concept from SETI, but one advantage is that you are running a complete model rather than analysing small slices of data and so the graphics have a meaning.
