As a CPDN newbie I didn't notice that the 'watch' had stopped. I had already learned that computing seems slow compared to SETI@home2 so I didn't wonder until I hadn't got trickles for the last 24 hour or so. Now I have marked 'Run always' instead of running according to preferences. Prefs ARE 'Running always' with some sharing percentages in case I am attached to several projects. Is this a bug or what? The only thing I ever did was trying to attach SAH2 to BOINC 4.05 as well, but as the upgrade at SAH2 to 4.05 is delayed I was detached after some futile time trying to download work units. |

There are two possibilities. One is that you are currently crunching a S@H WU, and CPDN is preempted. The second is something that happened to me. The debt for CPDN somehow was set to 0 in the client_State.xml. The solution that I found was to change the debt to some other value (I used -1). Of course, you might have some other problem. jm7 |

Now, after a long wait where CPDN has crunched full-time, I finally got some SETI WorkUnits, but instead of sharing my CPU time SETI takes it all and CPDN now shows preempted... Now, this was NOT what I had in mind, but do You know how to make it work again? I have searched in vain for a way to alter the percentage devoted to each project, but I seem to end up with empty hands. (I know, Ihave been reading all the wrong places, but where is the right one then :-) ) I don't dare touch anyting before I know exactly what I am doing, I wouldn't like to loose my CPDN-work data. Can You help me out? Thanks. ChrisD News: When I returned to BOINC after writing this, the scedule has just reversed, Now CPDN is running and SETI is Preempted. SETI has run for 6 hours according to the run-times displayed. Now I got a little wiser :-) but I would still like to know what is going on, so if You know where to dig up the answer...? |

Hi, I guess since CPDN was running for awhile, when you connected to SETI then BOINC "felt" that it was time to let SETI run for awhile. Now the default preferences would call for an even split when you attach projects, i.e. CPDN has 100 "resource share points" and SETI has 100 as well. So when you attached to SETI, it got the 100 and 100/200 = .5 so it was time for SETI to "match" CPDN. <A HREF="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/prefs_edit_form.php?subset=project"> http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/prefs_edit_form.php?subset=project </A> On your project prefs page you can set resource shares for each project, then update to get it to your client. For my settings, I put CPDN as 90% and SETI as 10% (900 on my CPDN prefs and 100 still on SETI page; I've run seti for 5 years before this! ;-). |

The choice of projects is based on resource shares and cruuent CPU usage debt (which project is behind in CPU usage as per your share). jm7 |

John & Carl. Thanks for Your replies :-) As CPDN has 128 CPU Hours logged already, SETI seems to take it's 'fair' share. As per Your instructions I have now altered the ratio to 5:1 in the favour of CPDN. I have also run SETI for almost Five Years now, and I think this CPDN is a nice renewal. ChrisD |
