It appears that BOINC does not think I am connected to the internet when I am on wireless whereas it seems ok when plugged into my network...is this by design? Or do I have a problem? boinc 5.2.13 windows xp sp2 winbook laptop w/intel centrino wireless |

If by \"not connected\", you mean to localhost, then the problem is simple: localhost is the \'worker\' part of BOINC, whereas what you see is BOINCgui. The two programs talk to each other via ports. Constantly. (Unless you have several computers, and then the remote machines are not LOCALhosts.) Some firewalls interfere with the comms between the two parts, so you need to tell it that BOINC is OK. We may need more info. Athough there are some smart cookies here who may know straight away. Just to start, which firewall do you use? |

Les has picked up an important feature re firewalls (i.e. Security settings) when moving from LAN to another wireless connection. In my situation, the connection information page for NETGEAR shows \"STATUS, CONFIGURATION, SECURITY ,ETC.\' and you will probably have a similar page available for the Celeron connector. (icon in the task tray) Under \"SECURITY\", NETGEAR instructs as follows: \"Please assure that the settings on this page match those in the Access Point or other stations, otherwise you will not be able to establish a wireless connection\" I hope you can find something analogous to this in your setup procedure. You may also need to use a \"Passphrase\" to connect to wireless when switching from a LAN. |

That\'s how I am connected now. I am using ZoneAlarm for my firewall. BOINC has full rights to access and act as a server under zonealarm. However, I may need to open some ports in my home router. What ports does BOINC use? |

Rom walton says Boinc needs the following: BOINC Manager needs to be able to open outbound connections to either 1043 or 31416. BOINC Screensaver needs to be able to open outbound connections to either 1043 or 31416. BOINC needs to open an inbound connection to either 1043 or 31416, and an outbound connection to port 80 for downloads and uploads of workunits, results, and science packages. BOINC Wiki |
