Hi, I\'m gonna be losing access to boinc on one of the computers I\'m using in the near future... The CP WU will not be completed before that time... If I abort the WU, what happens to the work that has already been done? Does the WU get re-assigned? If so, do they continue where you left off or do they start from scratch? ![]() |

Gets reassigned and starts over. It\'s bound to happen, and not much can be done about it. I am 2nd, 3rd, and I even think 4th on some WUs I am/have crunching(ed). ![]() |

Just wanted to know for sure before doing it in case it started at the last trickle or completed phase (as I have 2 trickles to complete the current phase)... ![]() |

If you stop it now, it will probably be delivered again one year after you received it and alltrickles you did have to be done again. For CPDN models, it is possible and officially allowed to move them and continue them on a different machine. If only 2 trickles are missing, it\'s always worth a try. |

Would try and move the WU but my other machine takes 6+ months to do a WU and wouldnt finish it in time either after completing its current WU... As for moving it... Wouldnt the server have a fit if a different computer number sent in the remaining trickles? ![]() |

It can work like this : http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=510945 where the trickles just continue on a different host ID - but I removed the host ID entry from client_state.sah with an editor when I moved the model. I guess, if you leave the host ID there, it might even continue with the same ID, just the CPU type might be wrong in the host description. Otoh. if the new home of your model already has an ID, it makes no sense to force it to use the ID of the PC that you will loose - so it will look just like my moved model on your systems. The host isn\'t so picky with the deadline as long as a trickle comes in now and then, so a slower box shouldn\'t matter too much - but this is a 2nd-hand information, I haven\'t tried that. |

Hi, Cam, I\'ve moved them in both Windoze and Linux. (Lost a couple in a move between P4 boxes once, probably my fault.) I think the main \"problem\" is that the wrong machine got credit for work done. (But, then, I care precious little about credit.) It might irritate folks nearby in the stats, though. The receiving machine will be running only the Folder from the \"giving\" machine. If you use boinc 5.nn, you can easily set it to not receive any more work. Then, when the moved run finishes, the machine\'s boinc can be returned to its former self. (Getting late here and there is some alcohol in the fog; hope that makes sense.)
