since i have cpdn running under BOINC on my computer, the chess playing program Fritz 5 that i use to analyse chess games is considerably slowed down. So i have to suspend BOINC to let my software run normally.
With the classical cpdn i had no problem. How can i give to BOINC a lower priority ?
I thing that other users have similar problems ( with other applications)
My computer is a p4 3.2 Ghz with 1 Go RAM under windows XP.

The 'official' BOINC solution seems to be to change your general preferences (in 'Your account') so that BOINC will run only when the computer is idle. I agree that seems a bit drastic. You can, of course, suspend manually in the BOINC window if it is only a problem when running a particular application.

This is an old topic, but I want to promote this issue somewhat... ;)

What I've been running & analyzing BOINC behaviour, it still uses waaay too high priority.

For example, try and set Diskeeper to the lowest prio when defragmenting your hardrive -> if boinc is running the diskeeper service will take forever.

I've found no other solution than to throttle boinc cpu usage to 90% at all times to let other truly idle programs running in background to get even some timeslices from the cpu. This is unfortunate, since Diskeeper for example needs these slices only a few times a day and for that boinc needs to be throttled for 24h/day...

Since this is supposed to "only use your computer's idle processing power", I think it really should do so...
