There is now offically no support for Apple Macs.

Opening the library installer causes Safari to crash. But I\'ve now installed it, and we\'ll see whether jobs can now run.

The job is now running. It was not necessary to remove and re-install BOINC.

Is \"no support for Apple Macs\" permanent, or are there any plans to incorporate?
If so, what timescale?
If not, what projects can we participate in?

It\'s permanent for non-Intel Macs.

To find some other projects:
BOINC/dev (Near the top)
BOINCstats (Part way down, under Status schedulers:

On BOINCstats, if you look at various projects under \"host OS breakdown\", you\'ll see that Macs are a small percentage anywhere.

I have an intel iMac.
Is there hope for the intel platform?

Am I getting this right by understanding that I may now quit the two models running here, one completed to 75% and the other to 25%? I am constantly getting the reply

\"Message from server: platform \'powerpc-apple-darwin\' not found\"

Is this an April 1 joke? I could understand not to receive new workunits, if the decision was made to no longer support an obiously complicated platform, which additionally has been discontinued. But why slamming the door into my face this way?

Also, for intel macs there is a beta test BOINC 5.3.31 which I have been running successfully and fast for 24 hours, no problems:

The servers at Oxford were down for maintenance on the 1st April.
This may have caused the strange message, which was also reported by another person.
The data should be uploading now.

Lack of hardware, time, financial backing, etc.
\'Layoffs\' seem to affect everything these days.

Thx for the reply, Les. However, I still get the same message whenever I try to update. The models so far are running fine, just the credits constantly drop. Someone apparently must have mis-configured the server, trickles from a non-Intel Mac (\'powerpc-apple-darwin\') no longer are accepted.

If so, it should be fixed by midday Monday, Oxford time. Unless it requires replacement parts like last time. :(

I\'m disappointed because I see this as THE most important project out there.
I had been contibuting with an old slow brick running linux, now have this ripping new intel Mac and can\'t use it :(
Is it feasible to get the team MacNN guys to help with the code issues?

This is a big disappointment. I heard about this project on a local radio station and was ready to commit some of the five Macs we have at home to this project. But, I have no client to download.

It\'s a shame. This is one of the most important things we could work on.

Here\'s a little idea - how about getting the win version of CP running under crossover?

i just downloaded boinc_5.4.9_windows_intelx86.exe and it seems to run fine under crossover beta2 version - however, i can\'t seem to find my old account to login to, so i can\'t test the actual CP client. hopefully, i\'ll get something configured later this w/e and see. i would hope that the client should be relatively robust under crossover, since it probably doesn\'t use that many windows dlls to do its work.

anyone else interested in getting CP working under crossover?

Update: the Boincmgr can\'t connect to the client under crossover. this will need debugging from the crossover standpoint; perhaps some IPC problems? however, i note that genuine windows (tm) folk have also experienced this problem; they reported various issues w/ firewalls, etc. i\'ll see if the source code is illuminating... in any case, i\'m likely to need help from codeweavers to fix this issue.

so, no immediate solution here.

The manager (gui), and the client (worker), communicate via ports several times a minute.
This is a list of the ones used over the various versions of BOINC:

boinc.exe needs access to the web on ports 80 and 443, local access on ports 1043 and 31416.
boincmgr.exe needs local access on ports 1043 and 31416.
boinccmd.exe (if used) needs local access on ports 1043 and 31416.
boinc.scr may need local access on ports 1043 and 31416.

Some are now not used, but I\'m not sure which. Perhaps 1043.
