I cannot find my account key on that site, where can I get it ? I need it to run Boinc...

Oh, I must say that in my account page, I see a number that looks like an account key, but when I try it I get the following message in my log file : 2006-02-01 23:36:09 [climateprediction.net] Message from server: Invalid or missing account key. Visit this project\'s web site to get an account key.

They should have sent you an e-mail when you joined that had your account key in it.

If you can\'t find that and you have two computers, you could copy the authenticator number from the account_climateprediction.net.xml file in your BOINC directory as that should be your account key.

Or you might be able to go to the \"Your account\" link on the left and change your password to something that can be remembered, then use that password to attach.

The account key is a secret. Like your bank account number.
But if you\'d like them displayed on your account page, I promise not to tell anyone. :)

The Account number is just an ID that gets included in peoples posts, etc.
You can see it under your name on your posts here.
As for the other long alpha/numeric string, that is your cross-project key.
This allows the stats from the different projects for which you are crunching, to be kept together, so that your credits can be totaled by external sites devoted to keeping track of credits for people.

I\'m posting here to find my account key, strange that it doesn\'t display on my account page.

As I said in the post before yours, it\'s a secret, and should be known only to you and the server, not displayed on your account page for everyone to see.
It is one of the things you will get in an automated email that gets sent when you first sign up.

With the arrival of BOINC version 5.*, the account key became unnecessary, and is only needed by people who still haven\'t upgraded.

Go to your Account page, and near the top you will see: Change password
Use this to create a password, and remember it.
Then use this password and your email address to attach to the project.

You can find the account key in the file climateprediction.net.xml in the directory you installed BOINC to. It\'s the 32 character string after the <authenticator> tag.

This does not seem to be the case under Unix. The command-line boinc client
needs its account key to attach to a project:

./boinc -attach_project <URL> <key> attach to a project

The GUI interface may or may not needd the account key, I didn\'t try (would
have to tunnel X over ssh and whatnot...no thanks)

As I didn\'t receive any mail with the account key in a timely fashion,
I attached to climateprediction.net from a Windows machine, got the
account key from the <authenticator> tag in file account_www.climateprediction.net.xml, and detached the project from the
Windows BOINC client again (because that machine is way too slow to do interesting work). A bit messy but it works.
