I dont want to give up, but dont know what to do now? Climateprediction workunits take months, so patience is a necessary virtue. It is a waste of time to panic, anyway. :) One thing to check is the general preferences in your account (see the menu on your left). Set the question \'do work while the computer is in use\' to yes. Then update (you only need to do this on one project site). Look in various parts of BOINC Manager. 1. In the projects tab, the second button down should say \'suspend\'. 2. In the work tab, the first button for each workunit (you need to select each line of workunit in turn) should also read \'suspend\'. 3. Under Commands (top line of BOINC Manager)when you select it there should be a dot against \'run always\' (the second option should be alright but you never know). In the work tab, what are the exact words in the status column for each workunit? Let us know how you are getting on. |

> ... i dont want to abort I will loose all my credits wont I? No, you\'ll keep the credits. But you WILL lose the current work unit for each project you reset/detach/abort. Please don\'t do this yet; there are plenty of other things to check first. Starting with Andrew\'s list. One more thing to check: on the right hand side of the lower blue border of BOINC, it should say: Connected to localhost. If it doesn\'t, then the two halves of BOINC aren\'t communicating through the ports. This could be because, the last time you powered up, Microsoft grabbed the ports registered to BOINC and won\'t let go. A re-boot MAY fix this. |

I have put the dot against \"run as preferences\" think that is OK? Yes. I suggested \'run always\' just in case there was something in your preferences that was stopping it. But if it is running, all should be well. As to why it happened, - well it\'s a computer. Need I say more? :)) |

I have put the dot against \"run as preferences\" think that is OK? Yippeee I did post that your suggestion worked Andrew, It was the dot against \"suspend\" that did the deadly deed, I still dont know how that happened though, I didnt do it. It happened again this morning, 10th Feb 06, I am working from home and switched on at 0830 and we were in suspension again, clicked the dot to \"run always\" and we are off again. I think I might have clicked the dot against \"run based on preferences\" and \"network based on preferences\" yesterday and originally. I have now left it as \"run always\" and \"network based on preferences\" - between Rosetta and Climate. See how that works. Next time someone else gets a strange suspension or \'stopping\' that check on the dots will be the first thing to try then. Still a mystery as to how the dot arrived on \'suspend\' though. Many thanks - it is even more poignant that Rosetta is working again as my friend died of cancer yesterday - I just hope Rosetta\'s research can help prevent disease like that in future. blessings to you all for your help.
