I have been running a work unit for 300+ hours
always with CPU usage at 100%. Boinc manager shows project running, progress 0.00% ( was 20% I think) and a second WU ready to run, Norton shows CPU usage at around 30%. Is work actually being done? Do I need to giveup on First WU?

I\'m not sure what is happening here, but you can view what is actually happening in the graphics window (highlight the \'running\' workunit in the work tab). You should be able to see the timesteps passing by.

If you cannot, try restarting (close the program from BOINC Manager with file/exit) and failing that reboot the computer.

Come back again if things are not right.

I\'m hoping what was happening was that it was end of phase file conversion which gets rid of some files and resizes other in converting them to netCDF (.nc extension). I thought maybe Norton might be scanning these files as they are written to disk. Are there two tasks in your Work tab of the BOINC GUI or just one?

You might want to exclude the BOINC folder from on access and scheduled scanning by Norton. Others have had problems with this in the past.
