Why on earth is creating a new account so difficult? I am using BOINC for Mac Menu, and therefore I could not create an account through the BOINC client, as instructed by the directions. It took me four hours of searching this site to find a way to create an account, and since I didn\'t have one, I couldn\'t get into these fora to even ask how to do it!

I almost gave up because this website is written making many assumptions on the part of the end user.

Please:
Make it clear that there is a way to join other than through the BOINC client!

Add \'Make New Account\' to the \'Your Account\' page.

Add \'click here to make new count\' to the \'Getting Started\' page.

Thank you.

Up until about September last year, the only way to create an account was to go to a project\'s web site and follow the instructions there.

Because a lot of people complained that this was too difficult, the BOINC developers added a facility in the 5.* versions to allow for creating an account through the BOINC manager.
This version was released about September, but all the sites still have, and allow, an account to be created the original way.

Also included in the 5.* versions, was the ability to use a password of one\'s own choosing, instead of the account key that had been used before. Again, this was because people had said that using the key was too hard to understand. And now people have problems understanding that they need to create a password themselves.

So it\'s a case of \'Dammed if you do, and dammed if you don\'t.

And it will get worse in a fews weeks with the release of the next generation of BOINC, which includes the facility to just say which projects you want to use, and BOINC will create all the necessary account details for you. Again, because people have complained that it\'s too much work for them to do this themselves.

And I\'m betting that there will be a new lot of people show up who complain about this idea.
