I was curious as to why the model (well my model anyway) begins in the year 1811?
Weather records (correct me if I\'m wrong) begin around 1870. Therefore how can the model begin in 1811? Plus why doesn\'t the model, for example, if started in c.1870 fly quickly through all of the data collected up until todays date and then start to process hypothetical data from this (current) date onwards?
It seems futile to model a climate which has already occured.
I know this is all a little vague but any ideas would be good.
Hi, I'm Daz, I'm originally from the UK but I'm currently travelling all over the world for a couple of years.

It\'s just an arbitrary date ... the hindcast portion of the simulation is there to see if the model which is running on a given machine is \'plausible\'. If it goes beserk then the later phases are ignored, since it\'s known to be unreliable.

For more detail have a look at : http://www.climateprediction.net/science/model-intro.php
And the other pages in the \'climate science\' section.
