I have downloaded the BBC Climateprediction program but have been taking part in SETI@HOME and other projects administered by BOINC. The BBC download seems to have wiped out my previous copy of BOINC and severed automatic access to the other projects to which I was giving spare computing time.

Yes and no.
The BBC BOINC uses a different folder to regular BOINC.
To get back your old projects, uninstall the BBC BOINC in the usual way, and re-install 5.2.13

Then your old projects will be back. (Hey Presto, and all that. :) )
You will lose any BBC work, but you can start again by treating it in the same way as any other project, and attaching to it using http://bbc.cpdn.org/
