Mac keeps getting this message and defers communication - ae there no mac work units? |

Possible not. The core team are currently busy with the influx of new BBC users. I\'m not sure, (been busy helping on the other boards), but I think the sulphur models have been replaced by the new TCM models, and there isn\'t any Mac software for this yet. TCM = Transient Coupled Model. e.g. Experiment 2, as described in the science pages. Although back when that was written, it was called Coupled Ocean Model. |

At the moment, it probably is a waste of time. But next week, next month ... Who knows? |

So, wait: they encourage Mac users to sign on only to then not provide work units??? Am I the only one to find this nuts? Come on, that\'s not serious! At least remove the Mac software and ditto appeal then. And no, I\'m not doing the BBC thing. |

And no, I\'m not doing the BBC thing. Actually, the BBC CPDN is Win 2K, Win XP, and Linux only. I just upgraded from a G4 500MHz to a G5 2.3GHz. I thought I\'d start CPDN and set it to half the processor time. (My Mac is usually on 24/7, except during parts of storm season. Bad lightning here in Tampa.) I also saw the \"Work for other platforms\" error. I\'ll stay connected for a couple months or so. While I don\'t like having a project with zero credit, it doesn\'t hurt anything. In any case, Einstein and SZTAKI are much, much faster, so those will crank up in the mean time. (Suprisingly, SETI didn\'t have nearly the increase in speed as the others. |

Carl, the chief software engineer, has now said that there will be no work for Macs for the forseeable future. He has been unable to get the current experiment to run on the Mac OS, and: We have all the slabs & sulphurs we\'ll need and it would just be a waste of electricity [to send these out]. I\'m afraid the only hope for CPDN Mac\'s in the future would be Intel Macs: (a) if I can ever convince anyone to get us one and |

Carl, the chief software engineer, has now said that there will be no work for Macs for the forseeable future. He has been unable to get the current experiment to run on the Mac OS, and: I am not quite in the clear as to what is going on. Until yesterday, my computer was trickling-up. Today it says: platform \'powerpc apple-darwin\' not found. Shall I just suspend what is running? It was the suphur cycle_hwqg and I am in phase 2 of 5. |

rumpel I\'m not sure why you got that message. Your trickles and other data should upload as usual. The servers were down for a while for maintainence, so that may have caused it. There\'s no point in suspending. Once you\'ve finished the model you currently have, there won\'t be any more for Macs. Make regular backups so that you can continue from a restored model for as long as possible. |

rumpel Thanks for the answer, Les. I will let it continue on the model, and see if it trickles up. I thought maybe the whole thing is no longer needed and was a waste. I am glad it was not, albeit disappointed that Mac\'s are somehwhat of an outcast in the near future... :( |

Carl, the chief software engineer, wrote \"... although from what I\'ve heard it should be a lot similar to our Linux builds since Intel Fortran for the Mac is available (Intel Fortran is what we use on Windows & Linux)\" Hmm, although it has been about more then 15 years since I wrote my last Fortran (on a Mac indeed) I did keep a glance in that direction and was wondering if \"Carl\" checked out things like: - http://hpc.sourceforge.net/ - more specifically : the \"standard\" in Fortran on the Mac (for years and years now) from Absoft, check out http://www.absoft.com/Products/Compilers/Fortran/Macintosh/OSX/OSX.html Hope this helps, Bart-Jan. |

OK, So no work, No announcement and no thanks. I guess that I become part of the feeling hurt and a bit taken for granted bunch. After such a big Please, please please help us call on Beeb and other places, I know that I have done work, I dont have any idea of results, impact or otherwise. I know we all gave our macs freely, but we didmake a decision to support Clipmate Prediction over other worthy causes, we did make the effort to download and register. You could have let us know even if it was though the tranfer message system, |

Steve: We REALLY appreciate you effort and contribution. We\'re currently unable to support Macs so due to personnel and resource availability. We\'ll try to make application for Macs available in the near future. In the mean time you can participate in other BOINC projects. I hope you understand. |

Steve: We REALLY appreciate you effort and contribution. I hope that their will be a Mac application soon. I signed up for Climate Prediction before it even started sending out work units and did a lot of crunching before the transition to BOINC. I am participating in two other BOINC projects (Rosetta@Home and FightingAids@Home) that I think are worthwhile but I\'d really like to do more Climate Prediction work. I think there is still a lot of interest from Mac users and that we\'d be happy to help with getting the Mac application ready if we can. |

So sad that Macs are not supported. I could connect 4 excellent machines including 2 double-processor machines ... |

Welcome to the Boards, Giacomo. See pc22\'s post in the \'all MAC users\' Sticky above this Thread. I can\'t evaluate the posibility as I\'m not a MAC user but, like WINE in Linux, the idea might prove servicable... Edit: pc22 just made another post -- hit a snag and seeks help. Mac keeps getting this message and defers communication - ae there no mac work units? I have been getting that message for some months now. I would suggest finding another project that wants Mac users. My Mac is now back to doing Seti@home instead. I messaged them about 75 days ago about the problem and have had no reply at all. It leaves a bad feeling when you have provided literally thousands of hours of processing time and they seemingly abandon you. Anyway, I repeat that you just might want to look for another project to help out using the Mac. |

Carl, the chief software engineer, has now said that there will be no work for Macs for the forseeable future. He has been unable to get the current experiment to run on the Mac OS, and: So, yes, I have an Intel Mac dual core running OS 10.4 and now Climate has stopped, but SETI is running. What\'s up?
