For some reason three different work units of the climate prediction project has been activated on my PC. Since each work units already takes extremely long to finish, I would like to delete the two latest and continue working on the first one (which is no longer visible in my Boinc manager). How can I do that? |

Hi, Select the workunit which has done least work, and click the \'abort\' button. It may help to click the \'no more work\' button against the project - this prevents new workunits being downloaded (until you click it again). Thus you have full control over how many workunits are on your PC. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I only see the latest work unit in the Boinc manager, however, while I see three in my climate prediction account. I guess this means that something wrong has happened to the previous work units on my PC. Perhaps they for some reason have been deleted. If so, I guess it is impossible to retrieve the already computed output. Any ideas? |

You can only \'get back\' models, from a previous backup. It\'s possible that the reason for the disappearence of the other two, is that they crashed. You can look on the result page for these 2 to see if there is an error. There will also be messages in the Messages tab about failures. |

I have 2 Sulphur wu\'s at the moment. Normally, there is only 1 cpdn wu at a time, but I was changing some stuff around and at one point, cpdn was the only process that was not \"Suspended\", so being a dual core machine, BOINC, quite rightly, wandered off and grabbed another one. This was accidental, but no real problem. The earliest deadline one runs most often, and is indeed, almost 90% complete. From time to time, the STD for cpdn becomes high enough that they are both running. The second one has amassed 373 hours. Both have deadlines in December, so there is no worries about them missing. In general, if you have 2 wu\'s, and they will complete without a long edf session, I\'d leave then to run. No need to abort them. As for restoring and retrying a crashed wu, you need to backup more then just the cpdn directory, you need things like client_state.xml from the BOINC directory, and the various \"slots\" directories. I backup the entire BOINC directory once a week, (you need to stop BOINC before you do this otherwise some important files are \"in use\" and won\'t get copied). There is another thread here following my adventure with a test restore. You can read my page here. It is a little out of date now, as the \"No new work\" feature would now be used, but the essence is there. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

Hi, I\'ve had a similar problem -- three new workunits downloaded before I could do anything, each time I\'ve suspended my main one in order to reboot. Thanks for reminding me to click on \"no more work\". I have clicked on \"abort\", but so far only the one (of the three) that had actually started running for a few seconds now has 100% completed. The other two, that never ran, still read 0%. I\'m not sure they are actually dead. Also, how can I recognize the files that were downloaded for these unwanted workunits, so I can delete them? They do take up quite a bit of disk space. |

Norman DON\'T use the suspend in the Work tab. Use the one in the menu. Also accessable by right clicking the globe (or B) icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. If a model suddenly says 100%, then it\'s crashed. If you have model folders with names that are NOT in the Work tab, then they can be deleted. |

Norman Thanks. ??Screen?? What screen? I don\'t have any such icon in the BOINC Manager screen. Also, what about all the zip files? It\'s hard to tell which one belongs to what. Perhaps they are all just temp files, and can be deleted? |

Screen: the thing what displays pretty pictures and words; cathode ray tube; liquid crystal display; SCREEN. If the zips are NOT in the folder of a model, LEAVE THEM ALONE. They\'re part of the program. |
