I thought it might be a good idea to document the positive and successful aspects of my BOINC CPDN experience thus far, while of course bugs or other issues are documented elsewhere. For me personally, then I only run CPDN from a DC viewpoint, so I have halted my current V 3.0.1 model, but decided to download 2 CPDN BOINC Beta projects, thus experiencing shared workloads, but in my case, for the same project, CPDN. Maybe some of these experiences can be incorporated into a BOINC CPDN FAQ? It would be great if we could report positive experiences for future CPDN BOINC users. *** Installation and Settings *** Very straightforward, up and running within ~5 minutes including download and install of BOINC CPDN 4.0.2 software and download of two CPDN projects. Carl has confirmed that an InstallShield type installation will be deployed for Public Release, so this will address the addition of Program Icons, etc. I just added a BOINC Program Group and ICON, and then copied the BOINC Program ICON to the Startup folder. I found that the 80/20 rule applied to the BOINC Preferences, and I had nothing or little to do from this viewpoint. Overall I found the Installation and Settings activities very easy with minimal impact. **** Performance **** After 16 hours running I find that I have processed ~30% more timesteps than I usually do via CPDN Classic. The BOINC Messages fields CPU time and to completion seem fairly accurate, although I haven’t worked out the tolerances yet. From a HDD I/O viewpoint, I only ever created a separate Logical Drive for pagefile.sys under CPDN Classic and this remains as of CPDN BOINC, so no RAM Disk usage. I have found that from my HDD SMART diagnostics that the HDD operating temperature has reduced by ~10%+, even though yesterday was one of the hottest days and nights on my records, but was the lowest temperature my HDD has operated at since running CPDN. I never really used FileMon for CPDN classic so can’t really comment on any file level activity differences. For me these performance characteristics are very welcome and indeed encouraging. **** BOINC Operations **** CPU benchmarks were processed AOK at first BOINC invocation and my 2 projects were allocated with no problems. The project options (Update, Attach, Web Site, et al.) have all operated AOK. My time-sharing options of 50/50 for each project has worked AOK, and processing (I.E. Preempting -> Resuming) is switched every hour for each project accordingly. I haven’t trickled yet as my machine is not the most powerful, and I’m time-sharing between two projects. |

That can't be!!!!! I have no other background programs!?!!? A run as fast as your system |

Emma's trickle time at ~5:52 is very much the same as CPDN Classic. ie. http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/trickle.php?resultid=296 Trickle Information for Result # 296 Time Sent....................
