Having just set up my BOINC client on Gentoo (on my Sun Ultra 60), I\'m getting the following message in the scheduler reply xml files for both climateprediction and worldcommunitygrid:

platform \'sparc-unknown-linux-gnu\' not found

Does this need to be set up at the server end? Surely it can run the same models as per Sparc Solaris?

I\'m running Gentoo, but I think its using the Sparc specific sources for the Kernel - I do need to recompile the Kernel anyway because I haven\'t got SMP working yet, so maybe I can tweak the platform name while I\'m at it?

Following up on this - I\'ve had the BOINC client uselessly polling various projects for a while now, but none of them will dish out work units to a machine reporting itself as \'sparc-unknown-linux\'.

The trick apparently is to configure the client to poll anonymously - which involves compiling the project application on the local machine, customised to its compiler and architecture, and then set up an app_info.xml file to tell BOINC which custom application to feed downloaded work units to for a particular project.

I am right now building the SETI application to try this out.

Do you guys have a URL from which I can download the CPDN source? I would really like to see this machine tackle the Climate Prediction project.

The source code is over a million lines of Fortran, and is owned by the UK Met Office. (They use it for weather and climate forecasting.)

No, Linux x86 binaries did not work on Linux on SPARC, because there are complete different architectures and not binary compatible.

SIMAP and SETI are the only two projects, which supports Linux on SPARC.
