Hi,

I\'ve got BOINC running climateprediction.net on my Gentoo linux server and it seems to be going ok. The task I\'ve got at the moment is at 0.104% and seems to be running fine.

However, when I click the Show Graphics button, absolutely nothing happens. No new window appears showing the graphics, no error is given, nothing.

I\'m guessing this shouldn\'t be happening...and if I\'m correct, then what should I do to make it work?

Does the CPDN Model indicate \"Running\" in the Work (or Tasks) Tab?

Is CPDN running with other projects? Nothing will show in CPDN graphics when the Model is suspended in favor of another Project.

Do you click in the CPDN run, in the Work (or Tasks) Tab? That\'s necessary to activate the \'Show Graphics\' button. Is the Button greyed-out?

If memory serves, there have been issues with Gentoo. A Board \'search\' should indicate troubles other Gentoo users have had with CPDN.

The CPDN model is shown as running in the Tasks tab, the button isn\'t greyed out, and I have selected the line in the tasks box before pressing the show graphics button.

I did a board search for \"gentoo\" and the only thread which came up was this thread...

Any other ideas?

Hi - where should I look for the sulpher_gfx* command? I can\'t find it in the BOINC directory, or in the system path.

If memory serves, there have been issues with Gentoo. A Board \'search\' should indicate troubles other Gentoo users have had with CPDN.

No major problem here with Gentoo 2006.0 (~x86). Take care if you have Xorg 7.1 installed in your box. The latest release of xorg-server is really a little crap with some video cards when DRI is enabled (leading to problems for applications that depends on OpenGL to run).

With Xorg 7.0 & boinc 5.5.13, it \"just works\".

P.S. sulphur_glx* is for the old SULPHUR experiment. Unless you are running an old WU, you don\'t have it in your box.

Run \"xhost localhost\" at the command prompt before clicking on the \"Show graphics\" button.
Before doing that, I recommend running \"man xhost\" and doing some reading :).

The BOINC client and server are otherwise working fine, doing their calculations and reporting the results. (BOINC manager version 5.4.11)

I would still like to see the visualisation graphics though.

Graphics are supported, but they won\'t show up by default. The X display needs to be accessible to the BOINC graphics processes in order to see the interesting graphics for, e.g., Einstein@Home, and it isn\'t by default.

Your X display can be made accessible to all local UNIX socket connections, including the ones from BOINC, by running

xhost +local:

This is generally safe on single-user machines, though not ideal. It is a bad idea on multi-user machines, so don\'t do it there.

Then, the \"Show graphics\" button in boincmgr, or the --result ... graphics_window option to boinc_cmd, will actually work. Unfortunately, when it doesn\'t work because of failed X authorization, it does not report the error back to boinc_cmd or boinc_mgr, and the only trace of the error is in some log file in the result directory /var/lib/boinc-client/slots/<whatever>
