I am very new in attaching to this project and was shocked to see such large work units. 2891 (120 days) til completion? Is this normal or is something mis-set in my preferences? And my messages are saying my computer is \'over committed\' it is suspending the fetch work? At 120 days to complete 1 work unit...yeah I am over committed! LOL. Help me out here thanks!

It\'s normal. When you think about it, what\'s the difference if the machine runs one very long Work Unit or a bag full of short ones? The machine is utilized and periodic credit is awarded either way. Here, you\'re modeling 19 levels of atmosphere for the entire world with a model developed to run on super-computers, for numerous parameters, for every 30 minutes for 160 years AND 20+ levels of ocean, hourly, for 160 years AND the interface between the two. It\'s a lot of computation. (Some of us ran 200-year Models.)

Ignore the deadline, it\'s a boinc thing for other projects. CPDN doesn\'t care about it, that\'s why it\'s arbitrarily set way into the future.

Did you read about the project before signing on? No secrets or \'gotchas\' involved. We don\'t want people to feel they were ambushed.

Edit: Your machine has less than the 512 recommended amount of memory to run the project. It can be done with less but, if you do other heavy work, it would be prudent to suspend CPDN/boinc for that period.

Also recommended, in Your Account/Prefs, be sure to set \"Yes\" for leave work in memory when suspended and to do work when machine is busy with your work. It might seem counter-intuitive but it really is the best way.

It is normal for people who turn around climate prediction.
I do not! Just like the idea of the project.

The difference is that I won\'t increase the resources of my PC
and I never give more than 30% of the CPU time to background processes.
I will return to support climate prediction when the jobs are
essentially smaller than a hump of some 1000 hours of CPU time.

If you know how to configure this, please let me know.
