I tried a first time back-up, few minutes ago, armed with the opened thread of Les on \'how to back-up\' http://bbc.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=1952#8299
There\'s nothing wrong with this thread, the problem is I didn\'t even get that far.. The moment I suspended both hadcm3lbmyadayadablabla files 2 new-ones appeared!
No panic yet, just also suspend those 2... Again 2 new hadcm3lbmyadayada-files !! Nobody said anything about this happening.. I quickly rerun the first four but now they\'re stuck on \'preempted\' for whatever that means... Sweat is running down my forehead, my belly is ackin, what to do now? Try suspending again? Ignore this ever happened and just leave it be? I stare at the heavens as strange questions penetrate my empty mind.. Must I use the \'reset project button\'?
I\'m guessing I shouldn\'t have suspended the individual tasks but directly the entire Boinc project, something I discovered only after.. I made a back-up now but does \'preempted\' mean I\'ve messed up these tasks?

Can some-one help me out please, it would be much much appreciated+ helping poor dumb newbie-noobs like me does grant you a big bonus regarding your general influence, respect and aura on forums like these :-)

THANK YOU

Quick! The valium! (Or a large whisky)

OK. Another tutorial.

There are 3 Suspends:
1) In the menu - suspends the entire BOINC program as well as the model.
2) In the Projects tab - suspends whichever project is highlighted.
3) In the Work (Tasks) tab - suspends whichever model (work unit) is highlighted.

If there is only one model in Tasks and it is suspended, BOINC thinks that the science app has run out of work, and downloads more. This is what it\'s SUPPOSED to do.
You can prevent this by going to the Projects tab, clicking the project name, and then clicking the \"No new work\" button, (who\'s label will now change to \"Allow new work\"), and the Status of the project will change to \"Won\'t get new work\".

Once you have done this, you can go back the the Work (Tasks) tab, and click each name that hasn\'t gotten very far, then click the Abort button.
This will leave you with just your original model.

The reason that all except one of the models says: Pre-empted, is because each model will get it\'s \"turn in the crunching queue\", at intervals defined in General preferences on your Account page.

To suspend while you do something else, use 1) above. This is also accessable by right-clicking on the globe in the SysTray (bottom right of screen), and clicking Suspend.

I\'ve got another way. Close BOINC all to gether by
exiting the program all together and if you have
to restore your computer, then BOINC will start
automaticly and you don\'t have to worry about to
check the settings to get it back up and running
out of Suspend mode.
