Apologies if this question was raised before, but as a newbie to Linux, I would be interested to know about other users experiences with various distributions. Is there a distribution that you would recommend for running CPDN? (on a Athlon XP machine, apart from Climate Prediction, I will only run less demanding stuff, mainly OO, TeX, R etc.) I\'ve tried Ubuntu over a couple of days and I quite like it, but any recommendations as to which distribution is best for CP will be greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu is OK (boinc is in the Debian repositaries, so you can install it via apt-get, AFAIK)
I\'m running CPDN on Mandriva and Suse 10 and it\'s working OK, too.
The only distro to avoid is Slackware: it seems there are a lot of problems with it.

I would say, that the best distro is which you like and can do your work quick and easy.
The different distros differs very much, so it is not easy to find the right one.
I readed in the different BOINC forums, that ubuntu is easy to setup and to use.

But, I did not like it. I prefer Scientific Linux (SL). It is easy to setup and is compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

I, too, tried but didn\'t like Ubuntu -- because I was accustomed to KDE and Ubuntu lacked features.

However, there is now a KDE version, Kubuntu. (I haven\'t tried it.)

It seems like Debian Sarge doesn\'t work.
I have tried Red Hat 8.0, Fedora C2-3-4, Zenwalk and they work well.
