If I recall correctly, \"Ready to run\" means that you still haven\'t finished downloading all of the many auxiliary files that are needed. When you have all of them, it will start running by itself. With each model taking a minimum of 3 months, and, for some people, over a year, patience is something that is needed in large quantities. And, as long as you\'re reading this, please make a note of the 4 README files here, which are full of hints and tips. Start by reading the one on Backups. |

No, \"Downloading\" means it is still downloading, \"Ready to Run\" means it has finished downloading, and is, in fact, ready to run. I have the same problem with a new unit downloaded a few hours ago. When this unit gets its share of resource time, it switches from \"Preempted\" to \"Running\", but nothing seems to happen. The CPU time still says \"-----\", Progress still says 0.000%, and To Completion still shows the original figure. The Show Graphics window will open, complete with text, but no world. Exit and re-starting made no difference. |

When you write \"nothing seems to happen\", does it mean nothing is happening? Can you check the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) Processes tab if something like \'hadcm3tran...\' is running and using near 100% CPU? If so, something *is* happening. Since the entire model takes so long to complete, it will be a while until it even reaches 0.001% |

There\'s also an initialisation phase, where the data files are unzipped, and so forth. This can take some time, even on a fast PC. While this is happening I don\'t think you see a %progress. The second thing to check is that the PC got to the first checkpoint before it was shut down - a checkpoint is (5 or 6?) model days, 10-20 minutes. But during this phase you will see the \'% progress\', cpu time, etc. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Yes, I checked the Task Manager, and the usage was zero. At first I thought it was unpacking, but after 1.5 hours there was still no progress. With the graphics window showing no graphics, I could not see how far it had to go to a checkpoint. Tried re-booting the machine, and still no difference, so aborted the unit. Will report back when I am allowed to get a new one. On the results page, it says CPU time zero for this unit. |

Could you grab the full contents of the \'messages\' window and paste it here, if it doesn\'t work next time? -Cheers, Mike I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

No problems this time. Spent a couple of minutes unpacking, then off it went. Thanks for your interest. I wish the model was smaller - at the current resource share I will be completing it 3 months late. Will this matter? The checkpoints are rather far apart, too - they used to be 42 timesteps, now 432. Do you know how many timesteps between credit qualifying trickles? It used to be 10,802. |

For the zillionth time! There is NO deadline with this project! The 1 year figure is there because the server software requires it for the other projects. Checkpoints are now every 6 days. The models start creating the trickles on the 3rd of December, and upload about 3/4 December. |

Les, thank you for the hyperbole. I didn\'t know - they should tell us. It has got up to 11 Dec and no trickle yet. |
