Hello, My apologies if this question has been asked before. I searched an yielded no results. I am currently using a windows xp machine. However, I am going to be changing it to a Linux OS. I have read all about backing up projects with windows. And I feel confident that I can handle the windows side of it. I just wonder if these back up files will play nicely once I copy them to the BOINC directory on the Linux box? Should I be worried about this? Or will I be able to migrate the windows project to the linux machine in relatively the same manner as if I was restoring on a windows machine. Essentially I am making a backup of the projects in windows. And I would like to restore all the projects on linux. Is this even possible? Do I need to worry about computer ID\'s? What things should I watch out for. I have quite some time left on my CPDN work unit, so letting it run down, is not an option. Thanks to the community in advance, dan k cheers |

Should I be worried about this? Be worried. Be VERY worried. (Well, it\'s not quite the X Files, but ... ) The data structure in Windows is different to that in Linux, so the only way to migrate the model would be to use a Windows emulator. Which, according to those few who have tried it, is VERY slow. In fact I think it may have caused constant crashing for at least one, due to the slowness. (Don\'t remember the details anymore.) |
