OK I have switched over to suse 10.2 with KDE, the client does not run.

When trying to start the application \"./run_manager\" I get these errors.
~/BOINC> ./run_manager

Gdk-WARNING **: Missing charsets in FontSet creation

Gdk-WARNING **: JISX0208.1983-0

Gdk-WARNING **: KSC5601.1987-0

Gdk-WARNING **: GB2312.1980-0

Gdk-WARNING **: JISX0201.1976-0

send: -1
send: Bad file descriptor
connect: Connection refused
connect: Operation now in progress

I have signed up for 3, only 1 now, projects. Currently I a mtrying running climateprediction. The buttons only load the web page in the shell - so I really can not intearct with anything - so I had to copy and paste a url in a script file to get here. The Clinet also just stays at 0 percent, and running. What gives with BOINC 5.4.9? sometimes it \"does\" move the counter, but about 1 second every 2 minutes. On an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with 1 gig of memory, this for sure should be running faster. Is this client just too buggy or. . . .

Help is appreciated.

Either this is a re-registration, or you haven\'t tried with an earlier Linux version, right?

Have you tried ./boinc followed by run manager in another command window? That worked for me in SuSE 9.1 & 10.0, if memory serves. (I\'m no longer running Linux because the current version of CPDN is faster in Windoze, so can\'t offer current experience.)

I always had a string of similar strange-looking messages on start-up but they seemed unrelated to a successful Run.

Is anything else (higher priority) running?

As far a your record shows, your Model hasn\'t errored.

Origionally i did not know there was a difference between BBC and climate, so I just ran the BBC flavor. I updated and all heck broke loose. The client ran for a while, but then just stopped, so - I had to re-download a new unit to work on. The old one was lost as the client would no longer even accept it. I\'ll have to see if I have the same issue later. Unfortunately i was unable to \"detach\" from the old project - as the client just crashed and had to re-download a new one.

Only gripe left is Seti will not see Konqueror 3.5.5 or Firefox, only opens a shell and prints text, but I was able to get the web url from the sched_reply_climateprediction.net.xml file - and just bookmarked that.

i still get the same Gdk warnings, and connection refused, but it does seem to be running again in openSuse 10.2 32 bit flavor.

I am using Suse 10.2 (not the 64 bit version) with an AMD Sempron 3400. The only real trouble I have is viewing the Web pages via the BOINC manager (see my recent post).

Perhaps if you were more specific I could be of some help:

1. Is the BOINC manager window present?

2. If so and you click on the tasks tab does the status heading say \"running\"?

Don\'t worry about stuff in the terminal window when you start the manager, such things are not uncommon!

I have OpenSuSE 10.2 on KDE as well. All works fine here. I\'m running a 64bit version on an Intel 950D dual-core.
