In the interest of experimentation I recently installed Linux (ububtu 6.10) on one of the machines on my network. I can\'t say I\'m overly impressed but that\'s probably a discussion for a different forum :-)

As far as BOINC goes it\'s all working as expected with the minor exception of BOINCView which doesn\'t display the host name on various screens. This, I assume, is connected with an entry added to the BOINC clients log when it starts up ...

gethostbyname failed

The host name is set up in the Linux boxes networking preferences, and everything else seems to be able to access it, so I\'m not sure why the BOINC client can\'t.

Anyone got any suggestions please?

Just in case anyone else should tread the same path ...

I found the answer on the boincaustralia web site. You have to ensure that the etc/hostname file contains ...

127.0.0.1 hostname localhost

... where hostname is your machines name.
