I was in a seminar today, and the speaker was comparing this project with one they have set up. They said that on this project there is about 8 MBytes/month of data transfer (I think they said uploaded, computer-to-server). Is this correct? How much is typically downloaded and uploaded, per month?

The amount depends on the computer speed, and the amount of time it runs each day.

For the current Transient Coupled Models, (TCMs, aka Coupled Ocean models), there is a 99 Kilobyte trickle uploaded at the end of each model year, and a 5.4 Megabyte zip file uploaded every 10 model years as well. There is also a \'restart dump\' uploaded every 40 model years, but I don\'t know the size of this.

My Intel 3.2Ghz P4, running 24/7, gets through a model year about every 12 hours, perhaps a bit over, and will take about 3 months to complete.

The download of files only happens when you start a model, and I think is around 10 Megabytes.
