I would like to use 1 CPU during the day and 2 CPUS during the night. I don\'t use 2 CPUs during the day as it takes too much memory and slow my PC down.

Is there a way to configure BOINC to act that way?

I can\'t think of any way of doing that, sorry. The newest version of the Boinc manager 5.8.15 has a way of controlling the amount of memory in use (when idle or when busy), perhaps this may help (see http://boinc.berkeley.edu/)

You biggest issue is low memory. CPDN requests 512M for your machine if doing a single unit. You are doing 2 on that. Memory would speed you up a lot.

Thanks for your answers.
Actually the memory size settings does exactly what I need, without having to buy extra memory to run 2 tasks.

After I set it as follow:
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 25% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 90% of memory when computer is idle

When I work, one task will be running and the other waiting for memory.
It will switch between the 2 tasks every 60 minutes(The value can be changed).
When The computer is idle, both tasks run.

Syms, in 15 months this computer\'s had 31 models that have crashed - a few aborted by you, some with -161 errors but mostly with -107 error codes. 107 typically indicates a graphics or lack of memory problem.

It\'s risky in my view for the model(s) to change the default memory settings in the general preferences.

With 512MB of RAM, you should only run one model even when the computer\'s idle. It would be simpler to run one model all the time instead of switching between two.

Through my signature, have a look at the project READMEs. In the one about avoiding crashes, look at item #1 about backing your model up in case it crashes, item #5 by Mike, and #6 by Thyme Lawn about how to update your graphics card driver (which helps to avoid -107 errors).
