Hello all,

A quick query on preferences for you to ponder over..

I use BoincStats to manage all my projects, including my preferences. I only use the one \'Default\' Preference. but all my Boinc CPU\'s (both Mac and PC) show the following..

Mon 23 Apr 02:46:29 2007||General prefs: from Climateprediction.net Beta (last modified 2007-03-31 17:00:21)
Mon 23 Apr 02:46:29 2007||Host location: none
Mon 23 Apr 02:46:29 2007||General prefs: using your defaults

I only ran the Climateprediction beta on my Intel MacBook.. Strange i know, but its showing on another 3 various flavours of PC and a G5 Imac.

Any ideas?

When you modify the general preferences on one project the changes are passed to your computer in the next response to a scheduler request. The new settings are then passed to all other projects which the computer is attached to (including the time and name of the project the update was made at).

If computer 1 is running projects A and B, computer 2 is running projects B and C and computer 3 is running project D and you update the general preferences at project A\'s website the propagation sequence will be:

  • the update is notified from project A to computer 1.
  • computer 1 notifies the update to project B.
  • the update is notified from project B to computer 2.
  • computer 2 notifies the update to project C.

Neither computer 3 nor project D know anything about the update because they have no link to the update chain.

AFAIK this is the usual behavour if running pref\'s from BAM without selecting the standard \"home\", \"work\" or school.
I checked it at my computers, - it\'s the same.
While the projects only support the three types above, I think there\'s used another one which is shown as \"none\".
But BOINC\'s behaviour is just like I did setting up (projects proportion ...)
