hi everybody, i\'m trying to move my boinc installation from drive c: to drive d: (and continuing the current project afterwards) but that ain\'t working so easily. there has to be some trick involved. simply reinstalling boinc with a new path on d: and subsequently copying the project files into the new directory is not sufficient. any help would be appreciated. regards pf |

Does it work if you copy the entire Boinc folder over to the new drive, then install on top of that? Boinc needs to be shut down first otherwise files will be missing. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

hi everybody, I did exactly that (shut down BOINC - the service, in my case): moved the entire directory tree: re-installed BOINC over the top - prior to upgrading from Win XP to Vista. Worked a treat - no problems at all at that stage. It actually conincided with an upgrade from BOINC v5.8.15 to BOINC v5.8.16, so it was a \'new\' install of BOINC - I don\'t know if that helped or not. Later, once I\'d got Vista running, I thought it might be a good idea to run the BOINC installer one more time to make sure everything was in place. This time, it detected it should be doing a \'repair\' installation, but failed with errors. In the end, I went to add/remove programs, and uninstalled BOINC completely: it leaves the data files intact. Then a new install of BOINC v5.8.16 (over the top of the old files, in the new disk location) finally got everything running smoothly again. Didn\'t even need to resort to the back-up files. |

thanx for your helpful answers. silly me! i had boinc service still running, thats what caused all my trouble. by stopping boinc service first i could successfully transfer my installation to a new harddisk with no losses in my current project. i even upgraded to version 5.8.16 - so far no probs occured. regards pf |
