Hello- my CPU usage=60% on my 1.8P4 1GBram 2GBvm before I run the model which takes the other 40% even after I limit CPU to 10-20% (via webpage & update) or via \'basic display\'s preferences. This causes response times at video java websites to increase from 3-5\' to 10\' min on my RR IP (runs at 3.5-6Mbps). This is unacceptable. If I suspend the model, responses get only a little better. Stopping the model & my PC operates as it usually does. My PC is on 24/7 & I use it continuously thru 24 hrs so there is only 5 hrs during the day that I am not liable to use it. I could schedule it to run as a scheduled task but would compute much more if I can get it to run at some reduced CPU%. I believe in this project & want to contribute the max possable. Any & all comments/suggestions are welcome. Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry |

The modeling program is a massive beast, and is a desktop copy of the supercomper program used by the UK Met Office for weather and climate modelling. Running it at the same time as other resource intensive programs is NOT recommended, as it\'s almost guaranteed to crash the climate model. So it\'s recommended that people ALWAYS Suspend BOINC (and the model), BEFORE running these other programs. Sorry, but that\'s the situation. Backups: Here |

Running the model only during the hours when you\'re not using the PC will also reduce the odds of the model crashing due to a conflict with the PC (note that video work often causes problems). How much memory does your video editing software use? if it\'s over 500MB that probably explains why everything is slow. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

The modeling program is a massive beast, and is a desktop copy of the supercomper program used by the UK Met Office for weather and climate modelling. Greetings & thank you for your response. Model runs ok with CPU, RAM, & VM = 100% unless I run 4 java videos + 2 editors working with videos or pics. So I shall stop the model when I do any of these tasks but for at least 16hrs/day the model will be using >85% CPU which yields ~150 model hrs/hr elapsed real time. Some interesting observations: 1. Just after booting RAM used =~400MB & Commit=300MB then page faults rise quickly - several between 600K-1M! I\'m not sure if that\'s normal. 2. Both photo editors use 20-30% CPU even when idle. Lots of apps use <1%. I might try C P V i e w next. Any & all comments/suggestions are welcome. Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry |

The \'time limits\' is set on the server, in your Account page, under General preferences. Click Update in the Projects tab of the Manager afterwards to get a quick update from the server to your Manager. Backups: Here |
