The Show Grpahics Option, Screen Saver Option, and anything that has to do with the Visual MOdel of this project doesn\'t work. It doesn\'t work on an Intel Quad Xeon Mac Pro, or an iMac Core Duo, or a MacBook Core 2 Duo, it seems to force the project into a computation error when this happens... what\'s the point of running it if you can\'t even see it?

It DOES work.
If you are having problems with it, then there\'s a problem with your computer.

I don\'t know about Macs, so I don\'t know how to help you, but it could be the drivers for the display.

The Mac version of it does not work, I have bootcamp on both computers, I can run the program there but I use OS X 99.9% of the Time, so that wouldn\'t be much of help. Well the graphics work in windows but not in the mac version. Oh well, who knows then.

The problem wasn\'t reported on the Mac board at the beta site during testing, so it\'s something to do with your computer.

The Graphics on the MacBook doesn\'t work, the Mac Pro is not mine, i just tested it and it doesn\'t work either. It opens up, the show graphics, and when the world comes up it is jsut back on outlines, not clounds, nothing. Then it closes by itself and does a computational error, it\'s happenes several times. I do not know if you get an error report, but when it has happened, the graphics option has caused it. I just wanted to run it since I had much processing power to spare and help out but apparently, My computer(s) are incapable of running it.

I have found the problem, apparently the graphics settings i had for windows, didn\'t work on a mac... who knows why. But they have to be a certain way, so if you have ran the windows experiment with the same account, (bbc to be exact, custom settings) you have to do some modification to your graphics settings. I found that default settings seem to work well with the mac. Everything works great now... thanks for the help.

Glad you worked it out.
A tricky one; I guess that the beta testers just used the defaults.

It seems changing the graphics setting from using the default can result in a application error.
I\'ll fix this asap.

scooterL: Can you please post the graphics setting used to get to this state.

The default settings are the only thing that stopped my computation error, the settings I had were the ones carried over from the bbc climate change experiment. Max fps 20 Gfx 50 globe 3d, everythign else is off or none selected. The above settings caused my computer a computational error, the Default settings work just fine.

I have the same problem in that when I attempt to show graphics all that happens is the globe and the list of commands next to it shows in a small window in the upper left of the main monitor it shows for just a moment and then vanishes there is no crash reported
a further attempt to show graphics (unless I quit and restart BONIC) has no result at all
I have never had any graphic setting to change my 3ghz MacPro with X1900 graphics card is driving 2 displays the main is an Apple Cinema HD 24\" 1920X1200 and as #2 an old Apple 15\" LCD Studio at 1024x768 both at Millions of colours
I do not have bootcamp and I also have not much interest in learning how to get under the UNIX hood
so I do not know how to reset default settings (which I have not changed
I wonder if the X1900 video card option was out in the hands of your beta testers as it did not ship till last September
Cheers
Windy
PS: it would be nice if someone who understands UNIX could write a mac friendly launcher front end to the advanced graphics application... perhaps with automater?

I would assume this thread is appropriate as I am having freeze problems on display via Simple View.
There would appear to be no problem running with no graphics, but what I liked to do was show graphics for each of the 2 tasks, moving to bottom of screen, and pressing Z, 8, and F to my personal taste, also magnifying the globe with \"page down\" key. Frequently the screen (and cursor) freeze during the setup of the graphics display, and sometimes it runs for 2 0r 3 days and then freezes. The only way forward is to power off and reboot, luckily with no loss of data.

Any solution forthcoming?

Running MacBook Pro OSX 10.4.10 with BOINC Manager 5.10.10.

My RAC had climbed to 700 at 27th June, but has been steadily drifting down (now to 580) in the last 3 weeks.

Hi Keith

Sorry for the delayed response.

We do advise members not to leave the graphics on and running all the time. This applies equally to the screensaver and the graphics window reached through clicking the Show graphics button in boinc manager.

It\'s better if crunchers only open the graphics globe when they actually want to look at it. The graphics window/screensaver takes CPu cycles away from the model crunching which is then slowed down. On some computers it can cause graphics problems of other sorts, in some cases slowing the whole computer down. On some computers it\'s also advisable not to maximise the graphics window.

I have the same issue that Windowshade reported above, running on both an Intel Core Duo and an Intel Core2 Duo. The Core2 is brand new with very little installed and no changes have been made to my graphics preferences on CPDN at all.

Still, I click on the \"Show Graphics\" button in Boinc, the graphics window pops up with an outline of a globe in the middle and a list of keys to press on the left. It stays up for 2 seconds, nothing else shows, the globe doesn\'t turn, and then *blink* the graphics window is gone.

This is happening on 2 completely different computers, neither of them with BootCamp or Windows installed. It\'s not a huge deal, but I do like to peek in at what\'s happening sometimes with my projects, and it doesn\'t work with this one at all.

EDIT: Ok, I\'ve got it fixed now. I must say that I think it\'s kind of silly - I had to click the \"Use Defaults\" option under the graphics preferences on here. One would think that if I\'ve never changed the preferences, they\'d still be set to defaults... guess not, though.

There were upgrades to servers on all of the climate projects over the past week.
Something may have happened to user\'s settings.
